I really like Sugercubes by Bjork and dEUS. But anyway, she seems to be one of those artists who makes really odd shit that's almost impossible to like or even to be considered music but nonetheless does really well with the music snobs.

Odd shit? Like singing with some electronic stuff in the backround? Bjork is barely anything in the weirdness factor.

Although, I think one of her new albums isn't going to have any instruments at all on it, everything is done with her voice I believe. Something like that.

Anyways, to continue with the good music thread. I've been addicted to Neutral Milk Hotel for the past couple months. Always listening to the pixies, might see them at lallapalooza. Ah, and Broken Social Scene, I bet alot of you guys would like it if you've never heard of them, their album "You forgot it in people" is amazing. It's a really great album. Perfect experimental pop. Their earlier album is more post-rock type stuff, but "you forgot it in people" is infinitely better.

Let's see, I've been listening to the shins and the decemberists lately as well. Dredg's "El Cielo" Hopefully I'll catch them next week in phoenix... Pavement's "Terror Twilight"...
Alot of indie type stuff.
then these bands are always in my rotation:
The Beatles
Radiohead
Cursive
Fugazi
Modest Mouse (new record is pretty good. And they're finally getting noticed)
Mogwai
Explosions in the sky (if you haven't heard of them, get the song "first breath after a coma", it's a fucking orgasmic post-rock song if your into things like sigur ros and mogwai. :) )
Kary
My bloody valentine
Les Savy Fav
the flaming lips
Sufjan Stevens
Minor Threat
Embrace
ect.

Chris Jones, Chris Avellone, and Scott Everts spent a lot of time working on that goddamned editor, so some of you should use it.
Some of us are using it. We just want to make sure we put it to a better use than FO2.

Mearas - you're probably right - I have this penchant for saying that one thing kicks something else's dick in the dirt. I haven't listened to any proto-new-wave-revisionist-whatever recently but I remeber despising Sigur Ros, Tortoise, and Mogwai in particular. That was three years ago and bands rarely get better. I mentioned New Riot only because it has that neat, spidery riff, that doubles back on itself (and less crazy old man conspiracy.)

Since Rapeman's "Budd" (Slint's "Spiderland" and Bitch Magnet's "Ben Hur" to a lesser extent,) that style of music hasn't really progressed. Its lost all the post-punk angles and sounds even more like budget Pink Floyd rip-offs.

uh.
Step A: Listen to this.
Step B: Read this.
Step C: Re-organize your archetypes.

To be fair, I haven't listened to Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada, but I've tried Lift Your Skinny Fists (...) and F#A#∞ and didn't particularly like either.

In a direct comparison of Sigur Ros with GYBE!, I had to jump on Sigur Ros' defense. They're certainly indecorously pretentious, but, that overlooked, their music is occasionally enjoyable. Make a comparison to the whole genre, however, I can't, as I can't call the genre one of my favourites and had close to no initiative to check out some of the originator collectives. Just out of curiosity though, I'll try some of the four you've recommended in your original post (heh).

I'm interested in what you would actually recommend.
