No Mutants Allowed has posted a brief and cryptic interview with JE "FIDDLER CRAB" Sawyer of Black Isle Studios about the project known as Van Buren, at least until it's known as Fallout 3. Here's one of the more interesting things:

Would the game be a sequel, prequel or neither if you had the choice and why would you make this choice?

I'd make it a sequel. I suspect most of the old time players would like to see how life in the wasteland has evolved since the destruction of most of the Enclave. A prequel could be cool but -- not right now.

As long as civilization gets bumped back from Fallout 2 levels to Fallout levels, a sequel is good.

Thanks, Brios!

I don't think I can imagine a Fallout RPG without some kind of link to Vault 13. Without a continuation of that, I just don't think I can gel with it.

It's kind of like having a Star Trek show about a starship without the ship being Enterprise(not counting the new show, which sucks because they assraped the setting).. It's kind of like the first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where DeForrest Kelley said about the ship, "Well, she's got a good name."

I would like a connection to the Vault; but not the VD. That seems lame as it evokes images of having destiny of greatness. Leave the destiny stuff to fantasy.

I can't remember; was the Overseer exiled or executed by the Vault 13 inhabitants for what he did to the Vault Dweller? (Yes, we've already had the karma/Bloody Mess/berserker discussion earlier. I'm asking what Fallout 2 says in the Enclave jail cell.) If he was just kicked out, it might be interesting to play one of his descendants, who have to put up with the statue of the Vault Dweller in NCR and similar things.
