The slow movement speed in King's Field is a design choice, because that way they don't have to use loading screens and can make one gigantic, seamless dungeon. The FPP crawlers by From that have loading screens have noticeably faster movement speeds.
If you're talking about the Eternal Ring, it's just set to 'always run' in the US/EU versions.

It's not just the running speed that's faster in Eternal Ring, but you turn faster as well.

this could be my first proper foray into this series!
Be aware it's just a demo:
Only the first location is available, but the demo can be played to its logical conclusion. If you're asking about the playtime, it's about 1.5 hour.
Cool project, but you really would be much better off just emulating King's Field 4 with remapped controls if you want to try the series for the first time.

Or just play the originals as intended.
Controls are perfectly fine, unless you're a retard.

Takes only five minutes to setup tolerable controls if you have a working brain.

We're not talking tank controls in survival horror here (or something alike), there is no deliberate gamedesign reasons for the controls of the game being what they are, they're just shit.

I think.
If I'm wrong I'll be happy that you prove it.

they're just shit.
They were made at a time when there was not any analog sticks, the dualshock was released after the originals was released. They're good for what it was at the time. The problem with these games are the clunckness of the movement, the low fps and etc.

King's Filed 4 is a PS2 game though.

And there is no "good at past time, not good at new time", this is progressivism thinking (berk!). Or it is good for what the game tries to do, or it is bad for what the game tries to do.
And the game wants you to circle strafe a lot, so...

I can say some good things about King's Field and Shadow Tower games.
Control, however, is NOT one of them. And that comes from someone who played his own share of old games with awkward controls.

Unfortunately it's cheaper, easier, and infinitely more profitable for From to just keep recycling the modern Souls formula until customers are sick of it. If a reboot is made, it'll probably be by the B-team at From that produced Armored Core 6 and they may consciously avoid any and all comparisons to Souls, from an aesthetic and UI perspective especially. They don't want to cannibalise their major cash cow, not when they are beholden to many outside interests (including Tencent and Sony). They may just see any potential reboot of King's Field or Shadow Tower as a marketing risk.
