Hey guys playing through and having a good time. Quick question though, how do you heal damaged limbs? My right arm is all F'd up but when I go to see a doctor he says he can't patch me up. Help?

No TB? I'm already wanting to play SS Sentinels again.

And what about the environment, is it destructible?
If not, I can't find a reason to play it having games like SS and X-COM...

RTwP. I tried it, and I'm sorry, couldn't play for more than 20 minutes or so. Big graphical glitches, horrible performance, fucked up and unresponsive interface. Camera wasn't bad, and view was ok. Oh well.

Do you talk to doctor with a wounded character?

After playing this game for a while.. I'm beginning to see how flawed the game is because of 3d+real time.

1) The camera is absolutely horrific.

2) The auto-pause event is crap, and is required because of real time. You get paused when you don't want it, and you unpause accidentally because the computer pausing whenever something happens.

3) Controlling a group of 4-6 people in real time, with each of them involved in a fight when 10+ people shooting them is horrific. Throw in lousy camera, stupid auto-pauses, the game becomes a nightmare to play in a big fight.

4) Shots getting blocked because of "3D" objects even though it is obviously NOT blocking. You must have a perfect 100% line of sight from the point of the gun barrel to the center point of the enemy. Hence if the enemy is coming out from a wall, you can't hit him even though you see him.

5) People, guns pointing through solid walls and as a result, being able to shoot at you.

6) Horrific 3D line of sight results in your rooftop sniper not being able to hit anything, but the enemies can headshot the shit out of you.

This game would have been so much better in 2D and a turn based system.
And no i am not one of those hard-core turn based advocates. Most of the games i play these days are real-time.

And no i am not one of those hard-core turn based advocates. Most of the games i play these days are real-time.

1) Camera isn't a problem for me. So long as you turn on automatic cutting and use the floor up and floor down for buildings, it works perfectly fine. Occasionally get stuck on a wall or something, but that's it.

2) The auto-pause is both necessary and great, but I do know what you mean by accidentally unpausing the game. What you can do, however, is edit the events that cause pause in options, cutting down on this greatly. It's not a problem, and I feel it's a strength of the game.

3) No comprendo. What's the problem, exactly? You can cut down a bit of micromanagement by holding alt when you're firing at someone, causing the merc to repeat that same firing action til the target dies or disappears from LOS. But really I don't understand the problem here, the combat is great.

4) This happens to me occasionally. You don't need 100% LOS on someone to fire and hit, and often times your merc will be able to hit, but the mercs hold the gun on their right side. When you're strafing to the left, or an enemy appears on the left, very frequently the shots will go into the wall you're standing next time instead of the enemy, which is quite silly. Fixed by strafing more left, or just running the fuck away coz you're about to die.

5) Has never happened to me, excepting the example listed below. Have played through twice.

6) Depends on the roof. That has definitely happened to me a few times. Solved by crouching instead of going prone, or getting a different rooftop. Also occasionally, even on those buggy rooftops, you can go forward abit more, causing the gun clipping glitch you were referring to, allowing you to get a real LOS from the roof.

The game's not perfect and has alot of technical flaws, but I have to say I've converted. I actually prefer the combat system in Brigade and 7.62 to almost all TB systems. But what's more is that the game offers alot of freedom, some quests with multiple outcomes/solutions, and multiple endings depending on what you do. The only squad based TB tactical games that come to mind that I've played and are even remotely analogous are JA1/2 and Hammer and Sickle.

I've read this game suffers from some horrible bugs. Are mods like the B.F.X. one suggested in this case, even for a first playthrough? Or just go with the flow, which I usually do, and play unmodded for the first time?

Couldn't give you a defnitive answer. I used B.F.X. the first time and it was fine for the most part, though I may have to suggest going a few versions back so you don't get the mercs stats screwed up like I did. It messes with the game quite abit, not sure why they changed them all.

The game looks like ass, but that wouldn't keep me from playing it. My main issue is the writing and English translation. I estimate there's a 5% chance they're any good. Plus, there's such a thing as too much gun porn.

Hey, SerratedBiz.
I recommend that you play the original game the first play-through. Make sure that you download and install the unofficial patch to get rid of the most glaring bugs.

overtenemy, I'm using the 0.333 version and I think they changed back some of the merc stats. TNT is a explosives expert again, not too sure about the others.

Haba, I'm dying waiting for the next update. Can you give us a sneak preview :D

Yeah, but what are her stats? It's not just that they changed her specialty, it's that they boosted the skills of shit mercs. You can get a rubbish merc like Warlock for maybe 9K a month or something, and the fucker's got like 70 shooting and 70 snapshot, and comes equipped with a TAR-21. His GUN costs more than he does for a month, which means it's a solid fucking investment even if the guy bites the dust. Alternatively you could find another soldier, hire him for a day, receive gun, and tell him to fuck off. It's silly, really. I don't mind it now that I only play the game ironman, but I wish I didn't have it on my first run through. :(

Hey, don't be such a lazy bum, why don't you download it and check it for yourself.

The merc inventories has been changed, they don't have high-end weapons anymore, that much I'll tell you.

Hey I don't know, maybe because I'm not playing it terribly much right now and it seemed like a much easier solution than installing the mod, starting a new game and hiring a merc? My bad though I suppose, I really shouldn't expect to be able to ask simple, easy to answer questions and not be called lazy.

Exactly, never expect others to do things for you. My original point was that you are spreading old and inaccurate information. Maybe next time you'll spend more time checking the accuracy of your info instead of posting it here in a hurry. You won't end up standing with your trousers down;)

I still got several hundred screenshots to sort out, but I'll update shortly. Started playing Chaos League again due to the Blood Bowl craze so my 7.62 time has been cut short lately.

Oh, and about the automatic pause - you can actually specify the events that'll cause the autopause if that has been bothering you.

Not really. Anybody that knew how to read would realize everything I said applied specifically to my version, and that the entire point of my post was to confirm/deny that it was in the new and improved version. Then for whatever reason, you decided to post something useless rather than you know, post a real answer. If you care so much about the spreading of old and inaccurate information, then why don't you give it a rest by answering a very fucking simple yes or no question: are the mercs stats back to normal or not?

lol, this could very easily turn into a you said/I said type of argument, but I actually care about not looking stupid, so why not call it a day? And btw, you could actually look in the merc ini files if you where interested in their stats, no need to start a game and hire a merc.

Haba, I'm looking forward to your next update, sorry for interrupting your very nice thread with BS.

Awesome. I was also lazy and just checked for mods and not an actual patch, which is why I'm running the game hardcore style and all. Even so, the game only crashes when I'm hit in the head and killed, so it's like they made death a meta experience.

I wonder if this has something to do with red screen flash associated with critical shots to the head?

Does it only happen when PC is hit in the head or with any merc? And, were there any crashes associated with concussion (whitening screen, caused by grenades exploding nearby)?

I am kinda curious, the russian version had a plenty of bugs, but something along these lines wasn't reported. Yet, how could translation affect *that*?

The "Headshot" crach only happens to Vista/Win7 users, so it might have to do with DX10. I use XP myself and have never had such problems. My game seldom crashes, so I consider myself one of the luckier ones.

Sorry to burst that bubble, since I have XP SP2 and therefore the problem isn't linked to DX10. I play the game in medium settings, so anisotropy or filtering all the way down, and I use the pause/camera in events at default. Just in case that was in question.

Also, so far I haven't recruited any mercs so all the crashes have ocurred when I get headshots on my main merc (who is active at the moment). I would like to hire a merc and test it but I actually haven't managed to reproduce the bug at will, as even loading to a save just before the bug happened won't give me a crash if I die again. So I'm guessing it might be some kind of buildup problem, if you load the same game a lot in very little time.

Bubbles are meant to burst, aren't they;-)

Your problem could come from corrupted tga files, might even be the ones mondblut mentioned. Since the translation team left the tga files outside azp archives, the engine corrupts them after a while playing. You can either pack them up in an azp file and edit your vfs.ini to include it, or you could set all TGA files to read-only. you need fresh and uncorrupted tga files first, so a reinstall is needed.

Or it could very well be the memory leak that causes the crashes. Too much saving/loading also causes crashes. Depending on how often you save/load you can only play the game for 1 or 2 hours, then a crash will happen. 'twas the same in the Russian version.

Chapter Seven: Canyon side Picnic

Chapter Seven: Canyon side Picnic

The last time we met, I had just established a base of operations for myself. After realizing that returning the quest to Lond was not an option, I set out for another quest. I obtained rather exiting new gear from the hidden cache in the military base; a silenced HK UMP .45 cal SMG, a ghillie suit to increase my camouflage stat and best of all – silenced semi-automatic KAC SR-25 Sniper Rifle. Being a variant of M16, it uses 7.62x51mm ammo, which is not readily available in large quantities at this point of the game.

shot20090512120810.jpg

If I were to rely on store-bought weapons, I'd be quite the underdog as you can see from the shop selection in one of the towns. The gear I'd just obtained from the dead Khans would help a great deal. However, in order to make most of it I'd have to visit Cali Cantinos for ammunition (and maybe some extended clips/laser sights if we''re lucky).

While on our way to Cali Cantinos, I'd of course make a few stops in the cities to check out the bars. And in one of those sleazy dumps, I met Sonar.

sonarsexy01.jpg

A japanese girl who talks very little. Sounds like a good replacement for Toker!

sonarsexy03.jpg

Soki Sato was born in a small Japanese village. Her father was a master swordsman. Her mother died in childbirth and Soki remained an only child. Her father never remarried and, instead, focused on training his daughter in the martial arts. When Soki turned 9, they went on a trip to Bangkok where her father was murdered and Soki was kidnapped and sold into slavery.

What Soki went through during the subsequent years remains a mystery. She is very introvert but also has a heightened sense of her surroundings and is constantly alert. This makes her an excellent soldier, but an unpleasant companion. Her excellent situational awareness led to her nickname, Sonar, and she charges a pretty penny for it. Her calm appearance never betrays the conflict within.

Well, I have an empty slot in my team, and Sonar has excellent potential for future improvement. Though her skills aren’t awfully high, she has good base stats (high experience, eyesight, hearing and most importantly - intelligence). Excellent choice for spotting the enemies. Welcome in Sonar!

sonarsexy02.jpg

O.K., now I am definitely sold!

Rest of the trip to Cali Cantinos was uneventful. For some reason, I totally forgot to take screenshots, but the basic gist was quite boring; got some ammunition, bigger clips for the rifles and that was it. At this point of the game, even in Cali the stocks were quite poor. I managed to just fill the clips for my sniper rifle, but no bullets were left to spare.

On our way back, we got ambushed by the locals. What an excellent opportunity to try out our new gear and to see how Sonar performs!

Hmm... Canyon map. I decide to camp most of my mercs on the entrance slops, and creep my snipers (TNT and myself) towards the edge of the cliff.

shot20090512132116.jpg

Uh oh... Bingo!

There is too many of them for our two snipers to snipe out... Hmm...

shot20090512132255.jpg

Let's see what this does?

shot20090512132321.jpg

Clonk, clonk!

shot20090512132323.jpg

Softened up nicely! I hadn't really been using grenades that much until now, seeing that quite often they'd either miss totally or just scrape the foes. But they definitely have their uses.

shot20090512132325.jpg

TNT threw another grenade to follow the other one, but didn't get a screenshot of the second explosion.

shot20090512132335.jpg

Soft and tender, easy pickings!

shot20090512133020.jpg

Bang bang!

shot20090512132426.jpg

TNT got a small scratch, but we took that blood back tenfold.

shot20090512132718.jpg

Meanwhile, Sonar hears somebody coming and starts laying waste on them.

shot20090512133037.jpg

The remaining trash bags are starting to feel a bit worried as Haba and TNT pepper them.

shot20090512133122.jpg

Sonar proves her worth.

shot20090512133321.jpg

Bandit says: Hurr derp derp derp :(
Sonar says: Decline of the bandits :SINGLETEAR:

shot20090512133303.jpg

I snipe the last remaining asshole from the face of the earth.

shot20090512133409.jpg

And that's it! 15 bandits lie dead and we got one wound and one hit in Kevlar. Now that was fun.

That's it for now. In next episode: a lot of talking heads leading eventually into one of the biggest fights so far (Dark 'n gritty EPIC!).
