Chapter Seven: Canyon side Picnic
Chapter Seven: Canyon side Picnic
The last time we met, I had just established a base of operations for myself. After realizing that returning the quest to Lond was not an option, I set out for another quest. I obtained rather exiting new gear from the hidden cache in the military base; a silenced HK UMP .45 cal SMG, a ghillie suit to increase my camouflage stat and best of all – silenced semi-automatic KAC SR-25 Sniper Rifle. Being a variant of M16, it uses 7.62x51mm ammo, which is not readily available in large quantities at this point of the game.
If I were to rely on store-bought weapons, I'd be quite the underdog as you can see from the shop selection in one of the towns. The gear I'd just obtained from the dead Khans would help a great deal. However, in order to make most of it I'd have to visit Cali Cantinos for ammunition (and maybe some extended clips/laser sights if we''re lucky).
While on our way to Cali Cantinos, I'd of course make a few stops in the cities to check out the bars. And in one of those sleazy dumps, I met Sonar.
A japanese girl who talks very little. Sounds like a good replacement for Toker!
Soki Sato was born in a small Japanese village. Her father was a master swordsman. Her mother died in childbirth and Soki remained an only child. Her father never remarried and, instead, focused on training his daughter in the martial arts. When Soki turned 9, they went on a trip to Bangkok where her father was murdered and Soki was kidnapped and sold into slavery.
What Soki went through during the subsequent years remains a mystery. She is very introvert but also has a heightened sense of her surroundings and is constantly alert. This makes her an excellent soldier, but an unpleasant companion. Her excellent situational awareness led to her nickname, Sonar, and she charges a pretty penny for it. Her calm appearance never betrays the conflict within.
Well, I have an empty slot in my team, and Sonar has excellent potential for future improvement. Though her skills aren’t awfully high, she has good base stats (high experience, eyesight, hearing and most importantly - intelligence). Excellent choice for spotting the enemies. Welcome in Sonar!
O.K., now I am definitely sold!
Rest of the trip to Cali Cantinos was uneventful. For some reason, I totally forgot to take screenshots, but the basic gist was quite boring; got some ammunition, bigger clips for the rifles and that was it. At this point of the game, even in Cali the stocks were quite poor. I managed to just fill the clips for my sniper rifle, but no bullets were left to spare.
On our way back, we got ambushed by the locals. What an excellent opportunity to try out our new gear and to see how Sonar performs!
Hmm... Canyon map. I decide to camp most of my mercs on the entrance slops, and creep my snipers (TNT and myself) towards the edge of the cliff.
Uh oh... Bingo!
There is too many of them for our two snipers to snipe out... Hmm...
Let's see what this does?
Clonk, clonk!
Softened up nicely! I hadn't really been using grenades that much until now, seeing that quite often they'd either miss totally or just scrape the foes. But they definitely have their uses.
TNT threw another grenade to follow the other one, but didn't get a screenshot of the second explosion.
Soft and tender, easy pickings!
Bang bang!
TNT got a small scratch, but we took that blood back tenfold.
Meanwhile, Sonar hears somebody coming and starts laying waste on them.
The remaining trash bags are starting to feel a bit worried as Haba and TNT pepper them.
Sonar proves her worth.
Bandit says: Hurr derp derp derp
Sonar says: Decline of the bandits :SINGLETEAR:
I snipe the last remaining asshole from the face of the earth.
And that's it! 15 bandits lie dead and we got one wound and one hit in Kevlar. Now that was fun.
That's it for now. In next episode: a lot of talking heads leading eventually into one of the biggest fights so far (Dark 'n gritty EPIC!).
