Arriving in Petrovce, Vivien goes to meet Darovit the mayor.
OK, let’s go.
Petrovce actually appears a p. cozy village near a small pond.
At any rate, Vivien soon meets Darovit.
I need your knowledge of the old days, as you say.
Well, ask, but hurry. I’m on my way over to the inn.
Shandee told me that magic is forbidden in your country. I need to find someone who could help me with the arcane arts.
Hmm… indeed, strange you are. Mages? It’s been a long time since I heard anything about them. I don’t remember much. Old King Swatopluck banished them all from Slawonia.
There must be mages in this world. They couldn’t just disappear. They must have fled somewhere.
I speak the truth. No one I know has ever encountered a mage in Slawonia since the old t imes. But when I was younger, I traveled a lot. Yes! I’ve seen many things and heard even more…
If you seek magic, you could possibly find it in the mythical forests far in the North. According to old fables, the Elves used to live there. But I can’t remember where. My memory fails me. I hear only whispers from the past in my mind…
What about gods? What gods do you worship? Is there a temple nearby?
Gods?! Don’t tell me about gods! I don’t believe there are some gods above us. I stopped believing when my Eurika was lost. Where are the gods when you need them the most, huh?!
Who was Eurika, and what happened to her?
Oh, Eurika. She was my beautiful young wife. It’s been only two weeks since she went to the forests to gather herbs in the night. We haven’t seen her since. We’ve looked for her everywhere.
It’s possible that she went too far… to Sharkan’s Dale. Dangerous place it is. Horrible creatures live there. Three of our brave young men went to Sharkan’s Dale, and they never returned.
I’ll try to find your wife if you promise to help me in my search for the Gods and/or mages.
Why would you do that? Look at yourself. You are just a girl. Not armed well for such a task. I won’t risk your young life for such a foolish undertaking.
My safety is my concern. Think about your Eurika.
Well alright, if there is some hope to find her… If you to go Sharkan’s Dale and return alive with my Eurika, I’ll help you with everything I can. And I’ll give you 80 gold coins for risking your life.
lel, 80 gold isn’t even enough for leather boots.
Where is Sharkan’s Dale?
Sharkan’s Dale lies in the Northwest. I’ll give you a map, and mark where it is. Good luck! I hope that, at least, you will return alive.
Sharkan’s Dale is indeed marked on the map, but those sidequests should be completed first.
Scattered around Petrovce are villagers who are eager to trade.
While realistic, trading food just isn’t efficient enough to spend too much time on.
Just outside Petrovce Vivien has her first combat in the game, against a lone wolf.
Combat is turn based using an Action Point system. Every action costs a certain amount of AP (magic costs both AP and Mana Points).
AP doesn’t regenerate and can only be increased by using Defend command.
Vivien starts the game with just one spell, i.e. Summon Wolf.
Magic spells come in the form of crystals which need to be stored in a spell book. With higher rank in mage job come better spell books that have more crystal slots.
When leaving the area, Vivien is again accosted by a peasant in need of help.
Job? And what kind of job is it supposed to be?
Here, Bashka, and Yanick are going to Garmel’s Mill with our wheat. We need someone to protect them. You know, traveling is a very dangerous business these days. Wolves, bandits… anything can happen… Please, take them to Garmel’s Mill safely, and you won’t regret it.
I’ll take that job.
Escort quests like these are not uncommon in the game, but again the monetary rewards are paltry to say the least.
At any rate, Garmel’s Mill is south of both the brewer and Woda Gbely that Vivien still needs to visit.
At the brewer’s, Vivien immediately gets another quest.
Girl? She is a pretty woman, of course, she can drink. Now, back to business. Are you interested in something?
By the way, I may have some business for you. Strange creatures live near my hut in Marshy Grounds. Chrapas they are called.
They are ugly and dangerous. The thing is, that if you add an extract from their tails to the liquor, it can make a big mess in somebody’s head, heh. Bring me 10 tails and I’ll you pay you 350 gold coins. How about that, huh?
Indeed, selling monster/animal parts is by far the most lucrative and straightforward way for Vivien to make money in the game.
Don’t fool that young girl! Do you want her to get killed, you old drunk?!
Shut up! Nobody asked you.
I don’t fear those creatures. I’ll bring you ten tails.
In any case, Vivien also needed to speak with Darma for Larrisa.
Oh *chuckle* That is my invention. He has no idea that I use these potions on him. I won’t hesitate to lend a hand, if another woman needs my help. Here you are. Take these two liquors.
Now Vivien heads to Woda Gbely, last stop before getting the two peasants to the mill.
Woda Gbely is a village near a lake; its inhabitants are obsessed by fish.
Marla is the one Vivien needs to pick up that wagon wheel.
Yeah, I should have known that he would break something again. This isn’t the first time. Just tell me what the name of my second child is.
You don’t have any children.
All right. I’ll bring you the wheel. I just wonder what he gave you for your service. I was such a fool to marry that bungler.
Now just one more stop at the tanner’s to sell some wolf pelts and the peasants can be dropped off.
Selling off animal parts assures a good income for Vivien.
After this, the two peasants can finally be removed. It’s the last we’ll see of them (even though their quests can be repeated).
Now Vivien returns to Slavingrad to turn in some sidequests and hopefully buy some new equipment.
Slavingrad at night is actually p. beautiful place.
Yes. Here are the liquors you asked for.
Thanks a lot. I only hope it will work. I’ll you give 200 gold coins for your expense. And I’ll also give you some good advice for your kindness.
200 gold is not bad, especially considering how that avaricious mayor only offered 80 gold for a life threatening endeavor.
I have a sister in Woda Gbely village. Her name is Odrona. She’s a herbalist and a skilled alchemist. You’ll find her in a hut apart from the village. She can teach you some of her secrets.
Since alchemy may indeed prove useful at one point, this is another good reward for a simple sidequest.
Now to return the wagon wheel.
Here is your wheel. What about the fish?
I’ll give you dried fish and one extra bottle of wine as I promised. It should be a good traveling supply for you.
Selling off the bottle to the tavern keeper assures a nice sum for Vivien. It is now time to upgrade equipment.
Vivien can now afford the short sword. And that’s about it.
