Part 54: Epilogue

OwXWjfA.jpg

In Kvirasim, Boreale is reunited with his surviving companions. Grimgravy almost dies of happiness.

h4gLMh1.jpg

Thankfully, Morkar manages to revive him in time.

I73HQ5R.jpg

Hey look, we can now go to the marker on Market Day! :incline:

kXRiQ5V.jpg

Our heroes return back to where this whole adventure started, to the Temple of Peraine in Kvirasim, in order to honor the fallen.

35tOxqy.jpg

Nevill Codexer... the first one to lay down his life for Codexia. Master of "handel abschließen", an honorary German and a Rogue with woefully underutilized seduction skills. He negotiated better prices for the party during his life, yet blew all of he party's funds on knife-throwing in his pursuit of german titles, at which he kept failing. Due to his gambling problem, he was not very popular among his party members, who didn't seems to care about him falling in combat and would rather talk to Artherion then to try to revive him, leading to his unfortunate demise. Still, he died for Codexia! :salute:

6OWcCVP.jpg

MicoSelva Rainbow Child, our first elf. He led us through the first part of the game, all the way to the Dwarven Pit. He single-handedly saved his team by retreating from the first battle with those demonic undead dwarves and then returned to nurse everyone back to health. A good pathfinder, healer and food provider, MicoSelva was a valuable member of the team. It was a tragic day when we lost him to the undead dwarves from hell...

kPBtIZJ.jpg

ERFKRAD Codexer, Nevill's older and much more popular older brother. He kept failing at "handel abschließen", no doubt due to his dead brother's malicious influence, but he kept kicking ass in combat, so all is forgiven! Still, even all of his fighting skills didn't save him from the undead dwarves from hell.

a01lnXs.jpg

Ah, the original Reinhardt. Who knew there were many more to come! This particular version was an emo druid, focused on writting sad poetry and summoning ghosts to tank, also he was the designated herb gatherer. Already weakened by the undead dwarves from hell, Reinhardt v1.0 died after he choked on all the smoke when we set some strange plant on fire while in the Dwarven Pit.

Oh2svPI.jpg

Morkar the Red, my MVP for the first part of the game. His Ignifaxius oneshot a many foe and his other spells helped the group a lot. The other magicians that came after him might have been better, but he was the first and they had much to learn from his example. Like Rainhardt v1.0, he choked on the smoke from that fire inside the Dwarven Pit. He almost made it out of the room too, but the gods were not kind to him that day.

zkDdfrn.jpg

:( Reinhardt the Jolly, AKA Reinhardt v2.0, you were too good for this cruel world. You brought cheer to people and gold to the party's pockets, you were much better at throwing knives then Nevill ever was and the Hiyalan Fire throwing weapon had potential, even if "his head was in wrong place". Sadly, he did not live long enough to test it more then a couple of times, as after he was wounded in battle with Orc Archers, he became the first victim of Azira's poor medical skills.

zFIVrTD.jpg

Jimmious, son of Gimli, the other victim of Azira's poor medical skills and the last of the original party to die, with Boreale being the sole survivor. Jimmious lived a fulfilling life full of excitement, lockpicking and teleporting cart rides. In short, he was a better rogue then then actual rogue and probably my favorite character out of the original six, he could easily rival Boreale in kicking ass and taking names with his axe. He died once already when the party lowered him into a shaft and refused to pull him back up until he found something and he just failed to hold on to the rope. Yet he was saved by a reload due to the fact that he was carying the Salamander Stone in his pocket. He finally died for good after the first disastrous swamp expedition, when Azira decided to run some horrible Ice Elf experiments on him instead of actually healing him and thus, he succumbed to a combination of swamp fever and battlefield fever. I was hoping that he would make it all the way to the end, but sadly, it was not to be.

CgyTBLQ.jpg

AZIRA! :argh: The insane female/male ice elf suffering from identity crisis, her Treat Wounds and Disease attempts mostly involve traditional ice elven medicine, like trepanation and leaving the sick alone in the woods to feed the wolves. S/he is also a known burglar, who spent some time in Lowangen prison and also a part dog. S/he was also the reason the first expedition to the swamps failed so utterly, as whatever s/he did to the others on the way there was so horrible that everyone was terrified to even venture near the place it happened, even those who never met our insane Ice Elf. While travelling to Sibra, she breathed her last when s/he died of Blue Cough and none of her alternative medicine treatments worked to cure it.

u1Qr9Oc.jpg

Reinhardt the Witcher, AKA Reinhardt v3.0, AKA the DECLINE version, like Windows Vista to v2.0 and v1.0's Windows XP. All he ever did was summon his useless broom, summon crows to attack HIMSELF, fail to charm the aggresive swamp wildlife and finally die of swamp fever after the swamp rantzies knocked him out.

MR8Jjyd.jpg

vazha Borealesson, this here is his original version, still freshly generated and ready for adventure. The real vazha Borealesson though is lost forever. He brought much honor to his father, Commander Boreale, and had a promising music career ahead of him. Sadly, he couldn't manage to survive the journey accross the mountains and he fell into a chasm, forever lost to us.

qqOm7iD.jpg

Nevill of Codexia, unrelated to Nevill Codex. A magician from the land of Codexia, specializing in domination spells and seduction. His Horriphobus made many a foe flee in fear. He was a faithful disciple of his master, Rincewind, and ran all the way from the swamps to Sibra, while carrying all of his dead companions and the sick Boreale on his shoulders. And he did all of that without boots! He liked to walk around shirtless all the time and cosplay as Magneto from X-Men. Shame we've lost him, as during the opening cutscene in the Blood Pinnacle, he managed to catch Dullskull AND Blue Cough before we even had a chance to start the dungeon proper. Still, like all of our magicians, he was very useful! :salute: Were he with us in the Blood Pinnacle while on his full strength, it would make everything much easier!

ZFmjDEF.jpg

da_rays Codexer, son of Nevill Codexer and an evil Borbarad cultist in disguise. He sought to steal our D20 for himself and fell in battle before he could put his evil plan in motion. He was useless at actual rogue stuff, but that wasn't his fault, but due to the fact that the game took all of our stuff YET AGAIN and didn't provide any replacement lockpicks. He served as a fine meatshield, as due to his dark allegiance, everyone instantly targeted him. Weakened from the constant orc attacks, he eventually starved to death in the Blood Pinnacle.

YOQTWq2.jpg

Turns out, Reinhardt v4.0 and Helly 360 No Scope are alive! Did I forget to save their progress? Or just select the wrong versions? Well, doesn't matter, they are dead to us!

Anyway, Reinhardt v4.0 was a fine addition to the party and redeemed the faulty previous version. Standing at 1.25 meters tall, she was easily the smallest member of the entire party, consisting of a 2 meters tall Thorwalian and Warrior, yet despite that, she managed to kick ass and take names just like them. Like Jimmious, she was also good at opening locks and even stealing from merchants. She almost made it to the end, yet starved to death in the room before the final boss.

NhgA2nQ.jpg

Helly 360 No Scope... well, the name speaks for itself. He singlehandedly proved that Hunters are actually awesome, which deserves a :salute:! He consistently dealt as much damage as the 20 Strength warrior types and kept rolling crits like crazy. He was also the best tracker and survivalist we've ever had. Just like Reinhardt v4.0, he starved to death in the room before the final boss, while I was trying to recharge our Astral Energy. And this was indeed a tragic loss.

BVABazw.jpg

Azira the Enchantress... well, she was definitely much better then the Ice Elf for sure. A Domination focused magician, she specialized in banning our enemies via the Chain and Manacle spell and despite her lower skill, she actually surpassed Grimgravy in the end due to her higher AE pool and lower AE costs. And she is one of the 4 surviving characters, so... :salute:

CQSemh7.jpg

Grimgravy Meekness... the administrator Silvan Elf and the master of the mighty banhammer. He might've been surpassed by his student Azira in the end, but still, I can't imagine how I'd get out of the swamps and through the Blood Pinnacle without this guy. And he was the one who wielded the banhammer first and no one can take it away from him! Despite all odds, he survived, even though he suffered from a major case of Claustrophobia even while above ground and still has Traumatic Fever.

tw9Xcs3.jpg

Morkar of Riva... the guy who pretends to be the original Morkar. He is with us since the undead dwarves from hell wiped out most of the original party. He survived to the end and I'm not sure if him or Jimmious should get the second place for survival after Boreale. He was great at "start barter", fighting in general and a great medic to boot! He probably has the best stats out of the whole party.

3RuVVHb.jpg

And finally, Commander Boreale, proud servant of the EMPRAH! What to say about him that isn't already known. This guy survived all the way to the end, despite numerous setbacks, knockouts and deadly diseases. I thought he'd die for sure when we've traveled to Sibra after that disastrous swamp expedition, yet he just shrugged off his Battlefield Fever, which immediately expired. Great at fighting and not much else, still, it's not like we needed him for anything else.

XKY2ygY.jpg

Anyway, since the ending sucked, we'll make our own.

u1yOURP.jpg

Following his ressurection, Nevill ventured forth to the mythical land of Germany. There, he finally mastered the art of "handel abschließen" and properly utilized his Seduction skill to start a profitable movie career. Sadly, the fame got into his head and now he refuses to speak to any other Codexians, for he finds their "handel abschließen" lacking. No one knows what the fuck he means by that.

r2V7QJw.jpg

MicoSelva Rainbow Child returned life, his mind forever altered by the horrific visions experienced in the afterlife, where he was tormented by the undead dwarves. Sadly, he never quite recovered and afterwards he went to Finsterkoppen, killing every dwarf he came across, living or undead. Eventually, he ventured to the darkest depths of the Dwarven Pit...

Cer0rxt.jpg

ERYFKRAD Codexer wasn't to be upstaged by his younger brother and thus joined the army in the fight against the orcs. He was captured during a battle near the Blood Pinnacle, yet he slew the orc chief in single combat and became the leader of his own orc tribe. Years later, Aventurians would hear the name ERYFKRAD and shake in fear as the great Warlord ravaged their lands with his orcish army.

kZx5MMy.jpg

Reinhardt the Black went on to produce some of the finest sad poetry known to the world and finally answered the question "What can change the nature of man?" once and for all, even better then Planescape: Torment. He eventually settled down in a nice house in the countryside, inhabited by all of his glowing green ghost friends, so he was finally among people he liked.

s1XKrJm.jpg

Morkar the Red tried to make a worthy spiritual successor to the Realms of Arkania series set in Thorwal, yet his Kickstarter campaign failed after everyone accused him of plagiarizing Skyrim. Full of rage, the mighty magician unleashed his armies of Heshthots and Skeletons upon Aventuria and burned down cities with his Ignifaxius. Eventually, the combined armies of the world stopped him, but still, he is there somewhere, planning, waiting, his rage only growing stronger each day...

PeLvexN.jpg

Reinhardt the Jolly returned to the world and brought joy and cheer to everyone around him. Sadly, he was too good for this cruel world and soon, he found himself hunted by those jealous of his success. Still, he wandered the world, bringing fun and laughter to the world affected by Decline.

BZPVfiY.jpg

Cmon, 288 Ducats aren't enough?

83h24DM.jpg

kKOOuo9.jpg

Fine, we need to insert more coins into the miracle vending machine.

4KHoHJv.jpg

Jimmious ventured back to the Dwarven Pit and eventually restured the mine to it's former glory. Finsterkoppen eventually became the richest dwarven settlement in all of Aventuria, with Jimmious as its leader. Yet in his hubris, Jimmious eventually dug too deep and uncovered the terrible horrors waiting down below. Specifically, MicoSelva Rainbow Child, who now made a pact with the dark forces and was thus transformed into an undead elf from hell. The newly restored Dwarven Pit and Finsterkoppen fell overnight and after MicoSelva finally stopped, only bones and ashes remained. The fate of Jimmious remains a mystery, but some people say that MicoSelva now has an undead dwarf companion on his side and together, they guard the Dwarven Pit from any further intruders.

Nj4vqdt.jpg

Immediately after being resurrected, Azira Blood Song fled as far away as she could to practice her medical skills on other victims and experiment with the alternative medicine treatments s/he was so fond of. If you have any information about the whereabouts of this insane ice elf, please alert the local town guard immediately.

z0vHbiB.jpg

Nevill of Codexia went back to the land of Codexia, seeking approval from his master Rincewind. Yet all he found there was an army of trolls, who were dedicated to hunting him down whenever he went. So he had to flee, and flee and flee and rumor has it, he's still fleeing to this day.

EfFokqf.jpg

You need to construct additional Ducats.

PynQKLK.jpg

Reinhardt the Witcher eventually went on to star in his own Witcher game. It received very negative reviews due to the fact that you had to fight with a broom instead of a sword. Yet somehow, it became the RPGCodex GOTY of 2030, most likely due to the deep and immersive storyline.

fVU5fNV.jpg

da_rays Codexer returned to the Temple of The Nameless in Tjolmar, seeking guidance from his master. After finding it deserted and his master slain, he vowed to restore it to its former glory and bring doom upon Aventuria. He eventually returned as the main antagonist in Shadows over Riva HD, which became RPGCodex GOTY of 2020.

YOQTWq2.jpg

Reinhard v4.0 eventually had to leave this world, for there are many worlds in peril, each requiring a Reinhardt to save them and this one already depleted its Reinhardt budget.

NhgA2nQ.jpg

Helly 360 No Scope was later heard saying that this game sucks and he'd rather go play CS: GO instead. He currently holds the world record for most 360noscope headshots in the world.

M10iSm4.jpg

As for our other heroes... well, we shall see. For now, this is the end of their adventures. But who knows, maybe fate still has something in store for them...

Part 55: But Wait, THERE'S MORE!

Turns out, this guy in Kvirasim will give us some alchemy recipes to start with, I think it's part of the deluxe edition? Would've been useful if I found him at the start of the game and not after I've finished it, but oh well, we've managed without them.

SML4gYD.jpg

GvN0MAX.jpg

Also, there's a whole section of Kvirasim I somehow managed to miss. In my defense, it's hidden behind all of those trees and the only proof of the existence of the actual "Real Kvirasim" is this wooden walkway here.

aPQfzeR.jpg

eiH4Fea.jpg

KyxUKHi.jpg

3pznx7J.jpg

Yes, the temple and the inn are not the actual town, this is the actual elven city. A treetop village. Looks a lot better then in the original, where Kvirasim looks like some generic human village in the middle of a wasteland. Not saying that the graphics are amazing or anything, but it's a pretty nice place.

ssTgZfq.jpg

aUnsJ7i.jpg

The local alchemist sells a lot of great potions. Again, would've been nice to know about him sooner.

There's a bunch of NPCs here that give you some tips.

7Ay7PI8.jpg

Yes, we've used a net to catch transformed Agdan. We didn't need to bring one though, as one was already in the Swamp Rantzy chest.

LaM8hOO.jpg

I guess this is supposed to be that priestess of Rondra we've saved at the start of the game and the male pronouns are a mistake.

Or maybe s/he is genderfluid like Azira.

vjV2Li6.jpg

Thanks, but we already know all about that, as our recently ressurected companions can confirm.

aEfWhW0.jpg

This is how it looks from the outside and as you can see, it's perfectly hidden from view.

GqIkEpN.jpg

Well anyway, we need reinforcements. Vazha the skald might have been lost forever, but the gods were merciful and allowed him to reincarnate as a Juggler.

aENDY9w.jpg

And here's Helly's edgy evil brother Ylleh.

wDx6Vt8.jpg

Yeah, let's make some money, we are totally broke after all of those pointless ressurections, so we need it!

bBRbZHW.jpg

Dammit Vazha, you are useless! :argh:

j1F2PLa.jpg

Great, now he can't make money with Arobatics anymore! Remind me, why did we take him along again?

i69rs64.jpg

:x

FLavXZk.jpg

Oh great, Dullskull too. And it seems that Azira's gender is still in question.

7oCCnwb.jpg

gU5WSVf.jpg

Ah, a string of failures, misery and deadly diseases tormenting our heroes. Truly a great start to our next adventure!

Reading their changelogs they have fixed a lot of stuff you found in your playthrough e.g. in combat enemy models don't freeze anymore when dead and dwarves have now proper interior in their size...

Yes, I've mentioned that dwarf one before.

This is how it looks now:

Part 56: Back To Tiefhusen

Qj8BU8d.jpg

Well, Dullskull down, Traumatic Fever to go. We don't have any Donf Stalks though, so Azira will just have to wait until it passes on its own or we find a healer, whatever happens first...

dj7Ve1b.jpg

Chain and Manacle, how I've missed you!

dn9RfDR.jpg

:x

VU1w0QA.jpg

Yeah, of course Ylleh fails at hunting. :negative:

iCYHZOF.jpg

Of course, they can't even handle travelling without rest all the way to Tiefhusen. Weaklings! :argh:

sIriivO.jpg

Azira finally recovered from the Traumatic Fever. We got lucky, since it lasted about a week. Also, they gain experience the first time it happens to them.

eato6a2.jpg

Well, what do you think? We attack!

pSfypCN.jpg

Apparently, a whole party of adventures attacking it is only "somewhat unnerving" to that beast.

Also, poor Grimgravy. This game hates him.

u4ogHOk.jpg

:x:x:x

quwwI11.jpg

Great, now we will have a good night's sleep-

OVjnzo0.jpg

Dammit, what's with these stalkers everywhere! :argh:

FzLRqtl.jpg

This guy kinda looks like Priscilla in Witcher 3...

:obviously: "Would you mind if I warm up at your fire for a bit?" the visitor asks before you have a chance to get a better impression of him.

We ask him what he's doing here.

:obviously: "Since the Orcs have started roaming about, your life and limb just aren't safe anymore. These days, it's better to travel at night and spend the day inside the town."

Fine, we allow him to stay. Maybe he'll sing to us Priscilla's song in gratitude? :M

:obviously: The fellow sits down by the fire and tells you about the way he's come tonight. But when his stomach starts growling, he interrupts his description. "I say, would you have a bite to eat for a lonely traveling man as well?"

Yeah, I had Ylleh hunt off-screen, so we have lots of supply packs. We can certainly spare one.

aeSwBpT.jpg

:obviously: With these directions it should be easy enough to find your way around here in the next few days.

1I7Rcg2.jpg

Are you kidding me, his shoes were BRAND NEW! Azira still has the ones s/he started with and they are perfectly fine! :argh:

Also, that encounter with the Rogue uncovered some paths in the surrunding area, so now we know which way to travel to get to Tiefhusen.

sveNjn4.jpg

Well, we are no cowards, so onward we go!

0rKbYrF.jpg

:obviously: But when you manage to kill one of the lynxes, the other takes off in flight.

EQln2Ma.jpg

Poor Grimgravy, animals seem to hate him.

9dmJmPy.jpg

Second option.

:obviously: "Because I say so!"

:rpgcodex:"But only if you come out!"

:obviously: "All right, I'm coming out. But don't get scared! I'm really nice unless I'm provoked... Heehee.."

0mDe365.jpg

V0WaCTk.jpg

Yes, this is just one of these random events where you can ask someone about things. He doesn't have anything interesting to say, so we leave him be.

Cc89uAO.jpg

Each time you get an event you didn't experience before, your characters get 10 experience. All of these events plus some random encounters I haven't shown were enough to bump Ylleh and Vazha up a level.

Anyway, we've made it to Teifhusen, but still we are about 6 Ducats short of 20, so we have to make some money first. Well, I'm sure that won't be a problem for Vazha-

nd6Y77w.jpg

Dammit Vazha, why can't you be Reinhardt? :argh:

e4Brvog.jpg

Switching taverns doesn't help, so we can't cheese this.

IhRgAse.jpg

Fine, just dance or whatever.

Ose7kAE.jpg

Dancing isn't as quick as I'd like, so we'll try Knife Throwing. Surely, Vazha can manage to win this one with his great skill-

eP1HrF0.jpg

Dammit Vazha! :argh:

H5ox4tn.jpg

:negative:

xvmKZ33.jpg

Finally!

Now, time to see Hensger!

Part 57: Phex Temple 1 - Trapped in a Cellar

KfkGnYH.jpg

When our group first visited Tiefhusen, they've learned that Hensger can get them inside the Phex temple. Well, time to do this! Hopefully, it will go much better then my first attempt...

WFzG6Qb.jpg

Third option.

:obviously: "Why, sure. By the way, that makes for a hefty surcharge."

:rpgcodex: "We'll pay! What do you know about Star Trail?"

6JHsFbk.jpg

First option, even though the third one is the sensible one.

fvDbfN0.jpg

If you pick dialogue options that anger him, the price will go up. We can barely afford the 20 Ducats.

IkolzMJ.jpg

Well, let's rest until morning, surely nothing will happen-

KrmFRhC.jpg

Dammit, should've had Vazha as the leader, inside cities, random encounters depend on Streetwise instead of survival. Tbh, I think this is the only random encounter inside a city that we've got. We've slept on the streets in Lowangen, but I had Vazha the Skald lead us and he had good Streetwise.

J4Hu8Qc.jpg

Well, after that fight, our heroes are in a rough shape, but that shouldn't matter too much. Let's go!

vmCEsZZ.jpg

svDuXDs.jpg

u2LXYig.jpg

QOUqjHo.jpg

vwyiAyd.jpg

Tiefhusen is no Lowangen, but it's actually pretty big.

MvYYxC3.jpg

Well, what could go wrong?

HawHhry.jpg

H3Ib1x7.jpg

The game loves to troll us. And yes, we can't leave the dungeon until we actually finish this. Well, onward! We shall fully complete this game! FOR CODEXIA!

:mob:

From what I understand, this particular dungeon was completely changed for the remake, in order to make it more fun, eliminate filler fights and also to make it more "lore friendly". So, 90% of what we are going to see here is content exclusive to the remake.

Part 58: Phex Temple 2 - Sliding Block Maze

88CWug1.jpg

Well, atleast Morkar leveled up. He is level 8 now. He has the second highest level out out of the whole party, after Boreale.

LDn6COj.jpg

Anyway, we should peobably get out of this place if we don't want to end up like these guys right here.

7Fd3V2a.jpg

Seems like we are in some kind of sewer.

Ic5DVBZ.jpg

RqCR0r4.jpg

2YyrJRw.jpg

Oh yes, we will see a lot of these things here. Interpreting them is a Streetwise test.

o4RRenu.jpg

JOCEC4t.jpg

There's 10 supply packs here. Not that we really need them, since we have more food then we can carry. I've also filled 12 empty glass bottles with water from the fountain, so that we have emergency water supplies. Hopefully that will be enough.

F1e5IME.jpg

Ub79YAM.jpg

This guy is apprarently invisible. Come on, atleast a picture? :rpgcodex:

Anyway, first option.

:obviously: "Nineychanan.", he continues in a conversational tone.

We introduce ourselves, even though we don't inderstand a word of what he's saying.

:obviously: "Sati, nallathu. Otu vilayadu vileyade vituppama?" He hands you the eight-sided object marked with weird symbols and points to the benches around the table with the other hand.

So, he wants us to play a game with some dice, eh? Well fine, we sit down and play!

We can also choose to "clob rhis outrageous guy", but that seems like a bad idea.

IXEOTjK.jpg

We gamble with gold coins, baby!

Also, he's really sensitive about his dice, so no touching.

6cVCgBR.jpg

lSfsFmC.jpg

TeaSQqE.jpg

I have no idea what any of these symbols mean, but it looks like we've won! We can gamble with this guy for money and if we win enough times, he won't want to play with us anymore. Well, let's get out of here.

WaxkVux.jpg

Into the sewers we go!

4dxrib9.jpg

CZEJums.jpg

Well, that looks weird as hell.

bEXGxlW.jpg

eFQd7nC.jpg

Well, there's some loot here, but it's guarded by something. Well, whatever, Vazha picks the lock and we go inside.

ukbtd8f.jpg

71LQlUD.jpg

Here, we fight a group of spiders. They are pretty weak and Boreale and Morkar are enough to defeat them, with some ranged support from Ylleh.

GBaQpjE.jpg

There's nothing interesting about that skull with a candle on top of it, so we move on to that chest in the corner.

2Ag7Hkj.jpg

SmmkpUu.jpg

Inside the locked chest, we find these... things. I don't know what they did with that fishing hook, rope ladder, grappling hook and a mirror, but let's leave before somebody comes in and decides to show us.

FW37ZqK.jpg

laYmmWs.jpg

VemS3QE.jpg

5zmyiaK.jpg

Ah yes, the first puzzle.

EH13c5D.jpg

This is basically a sliding block puzzle. The red square represents our party and we have to move all the way to the northwestern corner. We can move the blocks we are adjacent to.

VoAqlXo.jpg

In case we become hopelessly trapped, we can abort the puzzle and it will return us back to where we've started, but I manage to do this on my first try.

ePH9P45.jpg

pg0f9lF.jpg

Both the upper field and the left field lead to different areas. Right now, we will go to the left one.

cEQo1Fu.jpg

There, first puzzle is behind us!

EDl6F5z.jpg

pbgVJ6y.jpg

In the next area, we find a chest and one pressure plate.

4Xufyp2.jpg

The chest can't be opened yet.

EXxhHmD.jpg

dCvwMF3.jpg

Yes, I guess we need to solve a puzzle to open this chest. But first, we will take a look around.

N7sa64K.jpg

Pretty pictures!

SjgsRVN.jpg

Those locked doors on that walkway on the right lead to the next area.

hDgOVZ1.jpg

I'm not sure what this wall is supposed to be.

x4OmJzd.jpg

There's also another pressure plate here.

6mHgkrM.jpg

3OZeEv0.jpg

This triggered when we walked past this thing, so I guess the Phex reliefs are used to spy on us.

WSNhD7n.jpg

SRiH4js.jpg

STSI1Qv.jpg

We move past the pit trap into the next area.

LH14eVO.jpg

We can actually visit this area, if we take the upper path in that sliding block maze instead of the left one. I definitely plan to go here later.

20uxY17.jpg

DroaStf.jpg

GmBU583.jpg

The path forward is blocked by this rubble. Shame, since otherwise we could avoid a lot of hassle.

SXNhc7T.jpg

ExB0B8g.jpg

iT1vZoK.jpg

AADHEzZ.jpg

QAwtbY7.jpg

Yes, there's some treasure and again, it's guarded.

q6TXqP5.jpg

TKrypBS.jpg

By spiders, what else is new?

tVLtfHP.jpg

Well, atleast we get some nice golden rings to sell from that chest!

hlzilTw.jpg

JvwlK8m.jpg

sTvN6df.jpg

wnds0Hi.jpg

v84eAp7.jpg

Ugh, I hate this room! :argh:

HiJSpjT.jpg

MDe7XlM.jpg

c1QTGib.jpg

Q7GfRBM.jpg

EaSXUEH.jpg

Basically, you have to fill the whole board with the plates, but the plates can't be adjanced (or diagonaly adjanced) to a tile or plate of the same color (nor can you place a plate on a tile with the same color). When you place a plate on the tile, the color of the plate replaces the color of that tile.
The first time I went here, I accidentaly missed the spot that triggers the puzzle event, which resulted in the two dead party members, but now I'm much smarter! :incline:

1uojWfh.jpg

87IpSyC.jpg

CYW9DcH.jpg

Well, this is as far as I got. It's not the perfect solution, since it still leaves some tiles uncovered, but it works fine.

PMtWcNZ.jpg

tQoQfzD.jpg

I don't know if you can notice, but two of those hands stopped producing that green smoke.

XQkZNXR.jpg

The more tiles you cover, the less damage you take. At this point, it's more annoying then deadly, but we'll still have to go through here a bunch of times, if I remember right. :negative:

cbUTjCn.jpg

cYDBORG.jpg

We go to the left and admire those nice pictures. Even though it's like only 4 actual paintings and they have multiple copies of them on the same wall.

IcNicMv.jpg

Well, after all that, we heal our wounds from that stupid trap and thus, we can continue onward! Well, in the next update atleast.

Part 60: Phex Temple 4 - Fake Walls

nG9wYCe.jpg

Well then, let's continue.

9tf8PFq.jpg

WzIYOF7.jpg

oVX74YF.jpg

uQdIgiT.jpg

Yes, there really is nothing of interest here.

fis7Jq9.jpg

cglGwLk.jpg

Except for some spiders, of course.

JjaQ3Kc.jpg

6o9HraG.jpg

Vazha himself plays Leeroy Jenkins and decides to tank this, yet he is surprisingly effective. Ylleh and Grimgravy provide ranged DPS.

8qetdZG.jpg

EfmlvOl.jpg

pjXxANK.jpg

While there's nothing of interest in the room itself, it does provide a convenient shortcut.

UYHQ3ey.jpg

5QCGVwJ.jpg

3AbihVP.jpg

rNAem4i.jpg

Yes, we need to find the puzzle that opens this secret door.

kZEqy8j.jpg

nxWV8Xo.jpg

Here, we can clearly see that the corridor continues past this wall we can just walk right through. At first, I thought it was a glitch, but I guess they are supposed to be illusions, since there's more then one of them here. I didn't try the Break Illusion spell, maybe that makes it less awkward.

siuMKEj.jpg

3Wz9qOi.jpg

Anyway, before we explore what's hiding behind that fake wall, we explore the eastern part. Again, we have to go through this room and take damage.

iUToup6.jpg

TpEf3xF.jpg

Another fake wall.

eAepTcE.jpg

zp0qz0u.jpg

A door we can't open.

wNcY5OT.jpg

These balls appear to be here just for decoration, as we can't interact with them. Atleast right now.

tawxHh2.jpg

yhJshoa.jpg

hEgPa8u.jpg

A lot of delicious food, out of reach, just there to taunt us. :argh:

6RKmLUG.jpg

I guess we should check that place out.

WCTCEv9.jpg

Oh look, this is the cover art for the game! Does this count as breaking the fourth wall? I've heard that in the original, there were Blade of Destiny adverts on the walls, so I guess this is what they've replaced them with.

bGmFoJr.jpg

vCEb3RX.jpg

Another Phex relief.

RX7fg9F.jpg

mtFseNz.jpg

J3p0dmZ.jpg

And another just around the corner. Here, you can donate some money.

OGokp65.jpg

GIM1tVy.jpg

Here's another one and this one has a puzzle attached.

7glzGQJ.jpg

If you can remember, the first time we walked past a Phex relief, Ylleh warned us that someone is observing us, so I guess that means we need to count the number of reliefs we've walked past.

hE1ni7x.jpg

JMuXwxE.jpg

If you answer wrong they'll refuse to speak to you further, but I think you can donate money to that other relief and they will let you answer again.

mj4hpew.jpg

It seems this opened that secret door we've found earlier.

ZTiHRxc.jpg

:argh:

6ub4369.jpg

xFA9c8a.jpg

Let's see what's in store for us next!

Part 61: Phex Temple 5: Trial and Error

OSBfldt.jpg

iQCfw77.jpg

I smell another puzzle! :shittydog:

zUUaIlD.jpg

Also, these things. :negative:

ioYVPD1.jpg

VxWQYva.jpg

I have no idea how exactly are you supposed to come up with a solution for these, but more on them later.

mpGdrjZ.jpg

There's actually two of them here and both have the stones on them, which is convenient.

029b1x9.jpg

ZjYZzNX.jpg

Fine, I guess we won't have to waste time with this then.

EgiL8UY.jpg

Anyway, time to solve the puzzle.

9uWekYv.jpg

vPtgrKj.jpg

6YuUtqn.jpg

[Intelligence] It seems Grimgravy failed the Cleverness check.

sENG1BM.jpg

Critical failure even! Well, no matter, you can just save the puzzle for later and then activate it again, which gives you another attempt to get that hint.

ZLAY1CJ.jpg

D5QSeoJ.jpg

Despite the fact that the game says you have 2 tries, you actually have 3. I kinda screwed this up, should've just dropped 4 coins into each pan and if one of them was lighter, it would mean the pyrite is among those coins. If they were both the same weight, then whichever coin was left on the altar would be the one we are looking for. Like this, I've kinda wasted the attempt.

QzJ2kjv.jpg

Both weigh the same, so Pyrite is not among them.

9e5Yazz.jpg

Last attempt. Neither of these coins are the fake one. It's either 3,4 or 5. I can think of multiple ways to narrow it down even further, but in my defense, this was my first attempt.

WWiGWkX.jpg

Anyway, we can't perform any more precise measurements, so I simply pick one at random and hope for the best.

RFztSv9.jpg

And it turns out that I got lucky and it WAS number 4 all this time!

xSn4bHL.jpg

Anyway, these things... they come in two varieties, either there's a stone atop them or they're empty.

s7uZ8G1.jpg

PuAXmhA.jpg

uA3M4bQ.jpg

If your character sticks their finger finger into the wrong hole, the stone disappears and teleports atop some empty "socket" somewhere inside the dungeon, where you can try to get it again.

mssptAa.jpg

WBMrYZj.jpg

Of course, that is incredubly frustrating and means endless running back and forth, so I just reload. :dealwithit:

sR6tNoh.jpg

NyiQ6Dh.jpg

I actually got this result a few times when I've visited the temple the first time, but I didn't know that actually meant I was successful, I thought that opened some hidden door somewhere, especially since there were hidden doors behind two of these things.

NG5RYz4.jpg

gGAWTDQ.jpg

This time, I've tried this and discovered that you can actually take the stone from the "socket" after that clicking noise message. I've just save-scummed past both of these. The actual number you need to press seems to be random, as I've tried to press the same one multiple times and sometimes it works, sometimes the stone disappears. And it seems there's multiple buttons that actually lead to this clicking noise. I'm not sure if I am supposed to recognize those symbols, or if this is just some trial and error thing that's meant to annoy you and make you run laps around the whole dungeon, fingering random sockets until you get enough stones to for your collection.

e6tiZVk.jpg

Anyway, now we have one of these tings!

S4sz66Q.jpg

fScI0QP.jpg

JH3lCxv.jpg

nhywOLZ.jpg

After multiple reloads, we get another one!

Part 62: Phex Temple 6: We've Found Star Trail! (apparently)

MTELQNG.jpg

We return back to the area with the maze entrance. There was a chest here we couldn't open, so let's try to do so now. First, we split the party.

bnpi8mH.jpg

The room gets much darker, as Boreale doesn't have a light source on him.

3mLMnk9.jpg

Boreale moves on top of one of those pressure plates we've discovered earlier.

E5xH7OG.jpg

We leave him there and have Morkar stand on top of the other one.

ygfuyOt.jpg

The rest of the group moves to the chest and Vazha can now pick the lock.

FKVo4S1.jpg

Wow, this looks interesting.

kqVNMnW.jpg

A golden throwing axe. The flavor text hints that its more then that, but it doesn't register as magical, so maybe it's like that dragon spear and it's just really well-made.

pfF7UjK.jpg

6tcHr0Z.jpg

We revisit the maze and move to the northern part.

DTGWhIz.jpg

3Wn0axk.jpg

When we came through the western exit of the maze, we eventully found ourselves on that balcony, while now we are at the lower level.

boPgbFf.jpg

There's like 10 of these locked doors here, each of these little rooms has 2 or 3.

DpJvdte.jpg

Also, just like with "arobatics", Vazha apparently also sucks at picking locks! :argh:

Anyway, look at that text in the upper part of the picture. That throwing axe was Star Trail! They even have it in their experience logs: Found Star Trail! Woohoo! Quest completed?

TSBq2U5.jpg

ipq6oGN.jpg

VAZHA!!!! :x Screw this up one more time and I'll kick you out of the group and replace you with a juggler-

Oh wait, you ARE a juggler. :negative:

I guess jugglers aren't as cool as I thought they were, turns out it was just Reinhardt making them seem cool. Or maybe Vazha the Second is ruining their reputation. You be the judge!

hXrjVid.jpg

J8dJ6Ul.jpg

This is a door, cleverly disguised as a chest! These priests of Phex sure are cunning!

M40TYhR.jpg

h6L9nz0.jpg

Unfortunately, it seems that the room hidden behind that chest door was already robbed, so we won't actually get to see how this chest door thing works. They have to save something for the sequel, I guess!

QkdOr5C.jpg

Also, this door can't be opened without a key for some reason.

Ar4LXxi.jpg

Not sure what's the point, since you can just go around them through those doors that CAN be opened with lockpicking.

JqDBVa0.jpg

ZDlAIKb.jpg

Well, we've opened all doors that we could and got that sweet XP. Now what?

Jk8meTR.jpg

Some scroll, I guess some crappy alchemy recipe, like the fifth recipe for Hylailan Fire for our collection of Hylailan Fire recipes.

fmqoUdm.jpg

Wait, what-

v78B74v.jpg

Oh, so this opened a door?

Well, anyway, let's check out what this scroll does-

T0WcXyp.jpg

:what:

lG6pUOw.jpg

qyCwvLq.jpg

So, this thing will literaly make you shit gold?:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

P74dIX1.jpg

Also, when we took that "recipe", this thing opened up and now we can't go back.

gXKE4eN.jpg

Well, unless we use Tranversalis.

fonE6o8.jpg

But let's not do that and go through these doors that've opened after we took that scroll.

srOmxh4.jpg

dCmmGUe.jpg

S0T1dHW.jpg

K53nwjQ.jpg

Oh boy, what beautiful thing shall it be this time? :M

0MKoCK9.jpg

How does he do that, I didn't invest anything in Alchemy on him-

vLruLVS.jpg

Well fine, we'll check that out later. Right now, what does this recipe do?

0FNcT4t.jpg

Wow, a third Courage Elixir recipe for our collection of duplicate alchemy recipes. Woohoo!

klUGkAP.jpg

19SY7WY.jpg

Pffft, traps, surely Vazha can disarm that-

8oQinMQ.jpg

VAZHA!!!! :argh:

2FErpPw.jpg

3cpWcXS.jpg

Thankfully that trap only does minor damage. And we get some additional sweet loot! :incline:

46wc3lv.jpg

When we've picked up that scroll, the portcullis returned back to normal, so we can go back.

WTuqGxe.jpg

But no, we'll stay here and explore the rest of this area.

ZcKxr1Y.jpg

wD3dEyF.jpg

sWNMthS.jpg

rxnDia1.jpg

Looks like some kind of library. Wonder what we'll find there?

wuLOctq.jpg

Anyway, Star Trail found! :incline:

Part 63: Phex Temple 7: Light Reading

RiRwXag.jpg

GcJ2HE1.jpg

5d0l3OF.jpg

Look, some paintings with symbols on them! Some look vaguely familiar to the symbols on those "sockets", but I have no idea what exactly is the significance of that.

upja79Q.jpg

4XJQlvX.jpg

Anyway, time for some reading!

1X8XyJu.jpg

Every few steps we take, the game tests someones reading skill and if successful, they take a book and begin reciting useless trivia like they've discovered wikipedia for the first time.

From what I can tell, those portraits are of the precious High Priests of this temple?

HUeIYL6.jpg

...clothed, what? Are they nudists?

Or just that his relatives can't become High Priest?

plonnG9.jpg

This is what shows up everytime we fail. Which is a lot.

edK4lSR.jpg

Real useful, thanks Vazha! :greatjob:

Gxq4LYU.jpg

Well great, but which one of them was Meredin? And why should I care?

up4IJrz.jpg

...Phex embodies "list", what? Was it supposed to be lust?

Anyway, Phex hates white-collar crime and greedy people. So I guess he hates everyone from our party except Boreale and Grimgravy, since everyone else has 7 Avarice.

xBz3JXi.jpg

Great, I always wanted to know where Phex had his orc hoards placed.

WZZZ0oa.jpg

Turns out, they don't actually drink from these glass bottles automatically, so I have to use them manually. They get really thirsty after reading god knows how many of these books.

aw853WS.jpg

I love how they randomly quote these things like it's the most exciting thing ever.

42i6v8U.jpg

"Versatile" Glenna? How did she get that title, I wonder? Well, no matter what I'm sure her "versatility" has served her well in securing the position of the high priestess. Or maybe it was her "reach and flexibility".

zzyIO64.jpg

Apparently, it's also customary for High Priests to eschew all conventions of gender and adopt gender-neutral pronouns. Well okay, whatever works for them!

IlAgUrn.jpg

Almost at the end!

OFeBaE9.jpg

He is also most likely the god of internet trolls.

Dw0LQ2n.jpg

Some map that was left here after the priesthood's DnD campaing. Or maybe they were really meta and played DSA 3e.

Wv9iNlk.jpg

Pretty flowers!

zh3vv6X.jpg

Finally, we've made it through! Now, to go back... :negative:

UcGIQH9.jpg

On the way back, we learn nothing new, except for the fact that Vazha the Second is apparently gender-fluid like Azira. Well, that's okay, Codexians are nothing if not inclusive!

That stuff in the background looks like an entrance to a stair well in an office building for fucks sake.
