Agreed, it seems that Moore's promises are better than his delivers. The first story was fantastic, but with a "okay-ish" ending, while this one is weaker, and with a even weaker ending. Stuff like this makes me less sad that he never finished TOP 10, as I would probably be dissapointed...still, I shall hunt Black Dossier to how he keeps up.It's a bit derp to remove all the interesting characters in order to keep the "paladin"-type uninteresting main characters. I'm not entirely clear on why Nemo left anyway. He has no compuction slaughtering people in the name of England, giving England airstrike capability, etc. But a germ bomb?! OH NOEZ.
I loved War of the Worlds. It's still a very readable book today. Incredibly imaginative and highly evocative. I'm not sure this reinterpretation makes sense. How would we know anthrax and streptococcus would take out Martians? There was a huge poetry about it being "the common cold" in the book, now it's just kind of a nonsense leap of faith. Not to mention that since there are still living people there the disease has a pretty high probability of spreading.
Poorly thought-through, IMO.
Good comics tho'. Sad there'll be no more updates.
Vol 2 of LXG is overwhelmingly regarded as the best, and I concur with that notion. However, it's also uniformly accepted that the series hit major decline after that. Personally I fear it's because Alan Moore has shut himself too in and no longer has any ambition when writing comics. I especially worry about things when he explains the delay of the final album, the third chapter of Century, by saying that it's simply because he doesn't know enough about modern pop culture. Quite troubling. Hell, he could have stolen this from his fans:Agreed, it seems that Moore's promises are better than his delivers.
