Does anyone else miss the days when magic systems at least tried to be something...well...magical? Today it's just DD, DOT, buff, debuff, counter, heal, regen, summon, and move on to the next aspect of the game.

Yeah, say what you like about shitty Vancian magic systems, but DnD at least tried to make mages other than a source of AoE and magic DPS, with their utility spells being their most distinctive aspect.

Thanks for directing me to a good read, DU.

I wonder if the game's going to be difficult enough to actually mandate these creative spell combination or worth the bother? And considering the different types of magic users as companions, would it be better to just choose the talent not presently practiced by them? Oh well, I guess I will find it out eventually.

Also I hope the AI is advanced enough to know how to handle these different dynamics as well, although my hopes are not up.
