Looking for Games set in Ancient Rome

So yeah, i've exhausted myself watching every single movie set in ancient Rome that I could find. I've watched nearly every tv series based in ancient rome. So now I'm turning my thoughts towards another medium, obviously games. I've played all the Caesars, and I've played Rome Total War(which is one of my favorite rts) but I'm looking for more. Do any of you fine codex folk have any suggestions for games set in the glory that is Rome?

Glory that is rome :patriot:

read books. I'd advice I, Claudius and Claudius the God, and if you can excuse mildly inadequate writing, that masters of rome series, since it goes into detail on all the crap happening on the end of the republic.
Pop culture but ok information for lies

There is this old game i think it's called Centurion, it's basically a total war before the total war, very interesting game although it's old and may not give you that Rome feeling you are looking for, still it's worth mentioning.

Incidentally, I've also been looking for Roman era games to play recently, but so far I've only really come up with Caesar and R:TW.

Ever read the Conn Iggulden Emporer series? If so, would you recommend them? His Ghengis Khan series was alright, although filled with lies an inaccuracies.

Fire up Gladius on a PCSX emulator.

+ 1 for Teudogar though it's pretty damn short (especially if you decide to support and collaborate with Rome).

Ok serious recc.

Rome AD 92. Try it, it's 'fun'.
edit: the game actually is very funny (if you examine people) and freeform, if very strict about time limits. The kind of game you do a level over and over - for instance, the the first level of the lp there, you can do a job for the priest as a sheep deliverer instead of robbing people. There is also a similar robin hood game.

Some others that haven't been mentioned

CITY BUILDERS
Settlers II
Glory of the Roman Empire
CivCity: Rome

RTS
Celtic Kings: Rage of War
Praetorians

If you're willing to go ancient, there's a number of Adventures and RPGs.

EU3. Expand the Byzantine Empire to its former glory and more.

Purple, obviously. Didn't have the time to reclaim everything, sadly. :(

Pretty much all the good ones are already mentioned. Centurion: Defender of Rome is neat if you don't mind older games, graphics and UI's. EU: Rome with the expansion and Reign of the Ancients mod is neat if still flawed. Celtic Kings: Rage of War is an undiscovered gem. Fun rts with some rpg mixing in it. Gladius is also pretty kewl if you're into gladiatorial stuff.

Alea Jacta Est and its standalone expansion Birth of Rome are pretty excellent wargames. Check out our reviews of AJE and BOR.

HPS: Roman Civil Wars is another excellent wargame. No campaigns but shitloads of standalone battles.

Rise & Fall : Civilisations at War is a rts I never tried but got both good and bad scores back in the day. Looks interesting to me.

There's also 0 AD which is a free open source Age of Empires clone.

Lotsa people like Grand Ages: Rome. Meself not so much but then again, I never really go for builders.

Some guys are working on Hegemony Rome: The rise of Ceasar. Their first Hegemony game was a bit rough around the edges but also rather promising. Looking forward to this one myself.

I'm still hoping that Paradox is one day going to make an EU: Rome II.

Anyway, if you're into reading I can both very much recommend Julian by Gore Vidal and Eagle in the Snow by Wallace Breem.

There are two Cryo adventures set not in Rome, but Roman era: Journey to Pompei and Salammbo: Battle for Carthage.
