C>B B1 B - If you're voting A for the last option, I hope you'd read my reasoning for it at the bottom.
I love this update, glad that we went with my preference and got some delightful bonding time with Zayan. The Regeneration spell is nice, too, yet another justification to endlessly pump level increases into Mana and I imagine that it unlocks more interesting magical pursuits. If we can do genetic engineering of a sort, that opens the door for cloning and other good ideas. Imagine if we were to clone Zayan and find some manner to instruct classes full of supergeniuses...
Also, I'd like to draw everyone's attention to that the orange slime is already at level 15 despite just being born and it not appearing to do much of anything other than burble. That's got to be attributed to Erd's Aura of the Monster Chief, right? I guess it works really fast on the lower-class sorts of critters, and if proximity is a factor then the orange slime's hanging closer to Erd than anyone else thus far has probably helped it out a bunch. Maybe that's a part of why Lucy is hanging out in our room as much as she can... Anyway,
treave, do we know how the rest of the slimes are faring? The orange slime didn't really have much opportunity to eat things of particular interest to it, but the other slimes probably had that opportunity so I'd like to know how they compare to the orange one that was just exposed to our concentrated aura.
For the actual vote:
1C > 1B : I don't think it's a great idea to have Arlin do the interrogation. While he does have a connection with her, we must remember that that's true the other way around and depending on what sort of person she is she may very well be able to use his sense of guilt about this to manipulate him. He's naive enough already, if he's uneager to press her due to his guilt we're not going to get that much. At the worst, this plants some seeds of dissent in him, and leaving him alone with her also runs the risk of riling up Petze and causing some friction there. I don't particularly care whether Aria or Runde does the interrogation, so long as it's not Arlin, but my personal preference is towards Runde as he has absolutely nothing to do with the attack on the bandits and so there's probably a fraction less resistance and hatred towards him than what will be going Aria's way. It'd be good to have Aria and Runde communicating beforehand about stuff so that Runde is informed for the interrogation, though.
2B1 : It's rare that we have an opportunity to support Arlin's position in a way that won't compromise something else we're doing, no need to be spiteful about him being attractive to the ladies. Especially since his primary romantic interest is an overgrown cat, I don't think there's any competition there. Encouraging his existing attachments also serves to build up a barrier to him ranging more freely later.
3B : I think it's best to take Rin along. I know we've been caught up in a big thing about how Rin recently, but leaving aside what treave has said about her behaving in a relatively reasonable fashion since the admitted mistake in kidnapping, she just behaved with flying colors. She kept patience with Arlin's idealistic strategy for a week, and when that provided zero results by all non-Arlin accounts she decided to act to prevent Arlin from falling in with them (a concern most people have voiced in this forum, though not directly from Erd) and to deliver the results that Erd desired. She was well on her way to doing this, killing the men and sparing the women just as she knew we preferred, when by no fault of her own one of those hacking cloak guys showed up and whisked everyone away.
She behaved pretty competently, there's no need to keep her in a punishing exile for forever just because she's messed up in the past, especially when she did well this time. I would still be reluctant to take her to extremely sensitive negotiations, particularly ones where we view any violence as utterly intolerable, but I don't view this meeting for ransom as one of those. If there's no ambush? She provides an intimidating presence, nothing wrong with that. If there is an ambush? The option does say that that makes running away without murdering someone harder, but why do we care about that if we're being attacked? Really, screw anyone who attacks us, if they get cleaved in half with a massive ax then they deserved it. Any lenience given to an attacker on the basis of their cup size or whatever is a precious mercy from Erd totally undeserved on the part of the attacker. If we are ambushed, they aren't unaware of Erd's prowess in fighting and so they're going to bring as much hostility to bear as possible; if that's the case, I know that I'd like Rin at Erd's back.
All that aside, we need to discuss the wraith-like guys that have thrown wrenches into our plan, and Rin is the one that's gotten closest to them and best knows their traits. We need to be prepared for whenever they show up again, and leaving Rin to stew at home doesn't do anything to help us prepare. If another one is present at the site of the ambush, she's also most likely to recognize them and tell us so that Erd may be ready.
