I think a quick summary of the information we have right now is in order:
As you look around the clearing, you discover words carved into tablet-like protrusions on the pillars. The script is alien to you – though it bears some resemblance to what you have seen of demonic writing, you cannot be certain that they are related. You run your hand past the carvings, feeling the rough grooves beneath your fingertips. Lobelia would probably be interested in this, you think idly.
...
“Did they bear any emblems?”
A flag with a two-headed raven. You are not familiar with that flag – it does not belong to the Seven Kingdoms.
“Where exactly in the ruins did you encounter them?”
She tells you: it is just next to where you fought the minotaur.
...
“Believe what is in front of you! We were told that the Methussians might have one! Kill it! Kill it quickly before it kills us all!” shrieks the commander in desperation. There is an intense fear in their voices that was not present even when they were being slaughtered by Rin.
...
“There is little to answer,” says the commander, trying to keep a brave face and almost succeeding. “We are Galbaldian forces sent here to spy on Methuss. If… if you are in any way a sla... a subject of Methuss, by the Concord of Loum we submit to your forces as prisoners of war, and expect to be treated accordingly.”
“Hm. Interesting.” You look over at the goblins, where wounded Robust has cut Boss down and is freeing his comrades. “Were the goblins signatories to that concord?”
“Gob… what do you mean? Of course not!” the commander shouts, offended by the very thought. “To have non-human scum be present at the signing of a holy pact… that is unthinkable!”
“Well, I am non-human scum,” you remind him, stretching your wing. He shrinks away, his face pale as he eyes the white feathers.
“The Ca- the angels are… did they not…” He falls silent, a suspicious look passing his face. Are you really who you appear to be? That is what his eyes seem to be asking.
...
In the meantime, you have some goblins retrieve the items that had been left behind by the humans. Many of the supplies had been damaged during the battle. You managed to get your hands on a map, which marked out the ruins and part of the kingdoms surrounding it. It seems that the humans call these ruins Camlann. You also get your hands on more food – bread and dried meat, mostly – as well as a casket of ale. Unfortunately there were no handy documents full of writing, with official looking seals, which would have shed light on their purpose here.
...
“We… the Confessor-Princess… she received a dream. Something would appear in the center of Camlann that would shake the earth and part the heavens. Whoever obtained their hands on it would be able to change the world… some sort of highly dangerous magical relic that could not fall into the wrong hands… We were already in the area on another mission, so an urgent message was sent to us along with some reinforcements. We split off from the main group to investigate the ruins…”
“The main group?” Could there be another force out in the forest? You had spotted no signs of them, but you could have overlooked something.
“They’re… raiding the local villages... about seventy of them in all, we were a third of the fighting force… that was our original mission… to frame the Galbaldians…”
A force, suspected (by the voters) to be from the Barzam Ecclesiocracy was posing as Galbadian troops as part of a false flag operation within Methussian territory. Not much is currently known of Methuss, except that they are rumored to have an angel in their ranks. During the time of the unrelated false flag operation, the Princess-Confessor (their head of state), experienced a prophetic dream detailing the emergence of a magical relic that would suddenly appear at Camlann, the same area in which we initially awoke. This area appears to have a history prior to humans, if the alien script that resembles demonic which we encountered when we woke up is anything to go by.
Regarding politics, Galbady and Methuss seem to be at war, or at least open hostilities are not uncommon. When we dispatched their forces, the commander (posing as a Galbadian commander) submitted himself and his soldiers as a prisoner of war as well. This leads me to believe that Methuss and Barzam are actually allies (or at least not hostile towards one another), which is why this operation is so sensitive and covert.
Based on this, if I were to form my own question, it would be something about Camlann. This seems like a strange, old, magical place that is at the center of a lot of conflict. We woke up there, the Demon King had his old base there, there was that tablet full of strange writing that resembled demonic, and now some sort of relic that could tip the scales of power ends up appearing there just out of nowhere. I can't really think of how I would formulate my question, but I would ask about Camlann, whether it's a source of conflict between these four powers, why, and whether strange things like this occur there often.
For now, I am going with
1)
C: I think the scrolls surrounding the gauntlet are magical. This might be some power-gauntlet to focus our powers or something. Also, I think that a jewel-encrusted gauntlet just looks cool.
2)
A: If we are going to meet with the main force with the intention of pumping them for information, it would help to know what their organization is, what their goals are, and what power they serve. However, asking about angels might allow us to pose as a Methussian angel if we wish too, I suppose.
3)
A: As much as I hate to admit it, I think that this region is on the brink of a huge event with this artifact in the area. We're just going to have to risk it and attend to it for now.
