Mahjong is only fun when you're goofing around with friends, the moment you start taking seriously a game with luck based scoring (and some of it is arbitrary bullshit where statistically more rare yaku are worth less han than more common ones), and where the objective is not to win, but to not lose, because in a 4 player game the default average win rate will obviously be 25%, you have brain problems.
High level/pro mahjong is boring as fuck.
Also fuck kuitan.

Hmm, I used to play Mahjong every now and then on Tenhou. Unfortunately, they eventually moved away from the good web client and the replacement is like one made for mobile devices (aka utter garbage). I did pay for the Windows client for a while but meh...from what I remember, there is artificial bs going on, with the game steering you towards certain percentages (I remember seeing an account with tons of games, with the first, second and third place having the same percentage).
Sega's Mahjong game and something like Mahjong Soul is too off-putting for me. Hate annoying avatars, moving hands etc. Tenhou was just the game, nothing more, nothing less. I have bought several singleplayer Mahjong games though and those can be fine for some casual play.

Mahjong will forever remind me of the scene in the visual novel Higurashi where Keiichi pretends to be bad and then cleans the table with the cops he plays against, who thought it would be free easy drinks for them thinking he was a fish. ryukishi07's writing is fantastic.

And obviously I would choose the guy's table. I heavily dislike (little) girls. I have watched Shion no Ou though (but that's a Shougi anime). Mahjong needs a dark, seedy and smokey atmosphere.

Heh, looks like he is from a long-running series.

Ten is from Fukumoto before Akagi was even a thing. Unfortunately, barely anyone cares about him. Even Pixiv has very little.
