Goatfuck, MP3 CBR 320 kbps … I hate that shit. Why not provide the files in lossless quality?
(it takes more space than it is worth).
Looks like you answered your own question.

Even though 320CBR is a stupid waste of space.

I'd agree if I wanted to keep it in FLAC, but that wasn't my intention at all. I wish it had been released in FLAC (or another lossless format) because then I would have been able to encode it in any format with the settings of my choosing. The end result would have been just as good (if not better, though I don't really pick artifacts at 320 kbps to be honest) than this release and certainly smaller.

Damn, I fucking love the Khans of New California track. Gives a great intimidating vibe, that track really worked for a camp full of gun-toting bandits that outnumbered you 10-1.

Oh yes. To this day I remember the moment when my Desert Eagle killed one of the raiders in the camp in 2:35 moment of the track.

Someone should make a potion that would make you forget everything about Fallout 1 :(

Pretty sure it works with everything. And I mean everything.

Still, there's a good reason why practically no one does it.

Actually, in ambient music, almost everyone does.

fuck remastering, originals are where its at

Originals had to be compressed to crappy quality in order to fit them on a 1997 game CD. This is probably closer to the tracks as originally recorded than the in-game version.

I just love this new Codex mentality seeping in, this "hey let's just take it as it is and don't complain" bullshit.

The tracks are useless since the crossfading/overlapping is abusive. Intros sound smothered as hell (as a consequence of part of them being included in the outro of the previous track). As someone said, it's cool if you listen to the whole thing and probably never played Fallout, but coming from a game where music was totally segmented (and even looped) it's a pretty inconsiderate remaster.

My conclusion: Morgan didn't release this for the fans, he released it to the general public. So we really shouldn't be thanking the guy.

Dear Santa,

I am writing to you to complain that the pony I received from you was not black as I specified but a very dark brown one instead. This is completely unacceptable and the gift is worthless in my eyes. I have come to expect a higher standard than this and feel that until you swap this clearly defective pony with the one I actually requested you deserve no thanks from me.

Yours,

Why the hell would anyone want this? Apart from the old-timey music opening tracks (Maybe and Give Me a Kiss to Build a Dream On), is there any Fallout music that is all that memorable? It is mostly 'atmospheric' tracks.

Heavily crossfaded/overlapped, 320 kbps tracks = White pony
Clearly segmented lossless quality tracks = Black stallion

Sorry bud, no cigar.

Maybe he's going to add in another version for the sake of those who didn't want the crossfade or overlap?

It was meant to be an ost and not in-game music, it is supposed to be listened outside of the game not inside. It purpose is to convey the feel of the game, to make listener remember when he was playing, mayhaps specific moments etc. Definitely straight froward mimicking is easiest route but I'd hardly name it best or even good.

Or you could listen to it as any other ambient album. It's good enough for this kind of stuff.

Successive continuum is the only way I want it, I love my fade-in and -outs, crossfading and what not. You can cry all you want, I'll remain being a happy man.

And fuck all those adhd-infused who would only want to listen 3min long POS and can't sit through longer performance, fuck them. Ruining my music, how dare they, fuckers.

Even if it's a fucking OST the crossfading is dumbshit. It's an OK release for popamole casuals who just want to sit down and take it all in, but given the fact that tracks differ quite a lot from each other (and are supposed to loop) the overlapping is an annoyance.

Also, some of the most beautiful piano études last fewer than 3 minutes so your "length = monoclean quality" argument is shit
