I'm halfway through ME2 and it does have some pretty good characters, entertaining dialog and some interesting C&C. But instead of trying to improve on ME1 faults they just dumbed down everything.
ME1 inventory sucked - let's remove inventory.
ME1 mako control sucked - let's remove Mako.
ME1 had barren, copy paste planets - let's remove planetary exploration and replace it with the most mundane and atrocious minigame we can imagine.

There aren't any big cities to explore, no big outside areas. You just choose a "mission" and automatically get there. You'll find a contained area (most likely some kind of facility) various boxes for cover and the same enemies all over again. When you finish it, you hit "F" to leave.

The game is pretty easy too. I'm playing it in the hardest level with a biotic Sheppard and at worst I may have to use a couple of medigels. Most of the "abilities" are a joke. In ME1 you needed a balanced party, now it doesn't really matter.

I'll probably finish it because I'm a sucker for sci-fi settings, but ME2 is just a mediocre shooter with some C&C and somewhat entertaining writing and lore. The actual story about the collectors so far seems like boring crap though.
