I sighed when I saw how Mass Effect 3 was shaping up to be, what with this new "Do the Dew" protagonist, but I didn't think they would go that far. It seems like BioWare now wants to discourage you from making your own dialogue choices. Too complicated, slows down the action too much. Let the CPU think in your stead.

And the BioWare guys went on record to say that they would incorporate many more RPG elements? I can't wait to see their declarations after the game is actually in gamers' hands.

I only really played Mass Effect the first, which I found OK (if dumb). 2 I got discouraged because it seemed like little but Gears of War in space with hubs and a cosmetic dialogue tree at the end of each corrid... I mean, of each level.

I wonder if Conversation Mode includes "Full Decisions, Full Text" or if they're keeping it retarded.

Do the Dew?

I liked ME2, but that may be the lack of TPS speaking, but do give info on the beta

It's real, it's a real beta, and a real leak.

It's ironic because I'm currently trying to finally finish my years-old Baldur's Gate save. A game full of imaginative and lenghty dialogue everywhere you look.

Flash forward 12 years, and this is where we've gotten.

It's on Kotaku.

That’s certainly what it looks like, going by these screenshots. Weighing in at a hefty but manageable 1.81GB, the private beta has provided a number of users a glimpse of the game well ahead of its March 2012 release.

According to the NeoGAF thread where the images were uploaded, the beta is missing textures and sound effects and is by no means the full experience as BioWare intended it. A poster with access to the download mentions there’s a difficulty level “below casual for people who really don’t like the combat” and “a mode that selects dialog automatically for people who don’t like the talking bits.” I’m hoping these are simply jokes, but something tells me they might not be.

Let us know if you’re able to download it. Currently, it appears it’s only showing up for US users that are a part of the Xbox Live Preview Program.

So, nonlinear storyline is bad because you're spending time making gameplay content that players may not play.

But if you simply let the player choose to lock themselves out of gameplay content, that's okay. Nothing wasted.

Bethesda appears to be ever so slowly inclining and Bioware is rapidly declining. What a world.

I don't know... is the Action Mode with Action Hints and Auto-Leveling accessible enough for me?

I don't think there's anything wrong with these options in principle. If you want to make all the decisions and play on the highest difficulty, you can.

They should have a sub-casual mode that just removes the gameplay entirely.

Considering that BioWare's writers admit to not even liking videogames, it really wouldn't surprise me if they jumped at the chance to reduce interactivity further.

I wonder what half decisions is like?

I never believed that Bioware could fall to this level of comic book villainy. It is like they are deliberately attacking even the people who have supported their recent forays into the RPG genre.

You noticed that there is a Story Mode? It's probably exactly that.

Yay! This will make my LP easier, instead of hitting the awesome button, I just hit screencap key to document EXTREME Shepard's final journey.

From the source

Story mode just makes the trash mobs even easier.

Oh Bioware.

Either ME3's going to have a retarded amount of voiced dialogue, or they're going to nix this idea when they realize that if trash mobs are that fast to kill, they lose their only source of bloating game length.

They're alreddy easy to kill. That's wht makes them trash mobs.

The time is takes to combat them is the problem.

Good to see that U.S. is a language now. The 'English' label was just too broad.

I guess you can select 'Canada', 'U.K.' and 'Australia' to get the different accents.

who would honestly buy a mass effect game for the combat? its absolute and total garbage, some of the worst 3rd person ive ever played. this series relies almost entirely on badazz epic moments like punching reporters in the face and having sex with weird ass aliens, so i doubt theyd add a make choices for you option
