Overall the leaked design documents sound like the game is following the same fucking mission hub structure from the previous two. Even though Earth is attacked by the reapers in the opening.

As you and Liara desperately try to stop the download they are confronted by the all too familiar visage of the Illusive Man. He's aligned himself with the Reapers, but wants the prothean data in case the deal goes badly.

Hey guys let's work together to protect humanity. Just kidding, I work for the reapers now.
I know they'll probably play the "no, he's indoctrinated now" card. Fucking cheap-ass plot devices.

A deadly Cerberus fembot

:retarded:

PARTNER refuses to listen to your explanation and tries to kill the Prothean, and you have no choice but to kill him.

C&C at its finest. Also who the fuck is PARTNER? He's only mentioned like 4 times in the entire document.

The initial group of students who Shepard rescues are being led by Jack, who has dialled down the crazy quotient and is now assisting the students to harness their powers in ways that aren't self-destructive.

...The fuck? Jack showed no signs of being anything but batshit insane in every piece of dialog she had in ME2.

Honestly the entire thing doesn't sound that bad. There's not much C&C beyond a few "choose who dies" choices written into the thing, but they could easily be added in during development. They'll have to change some of the plot points at least, since they reference several characters that aren't necessarily alive doing important things. But I get the feeling multiplayer will fuck the entire game up.

This is actually kind of interesting.

and Shepard decides whether to let the quarians destroy the geth or use the coded signal from the now-dead Reaper to bring the geth up to a true state of intelligence. Either way, you get the fleet you needs to retake Earth.

Meaningful choices :x

Also, basically half of the plot is all the people who you weren't given the option of getting rid of previously still being in your way and still fucking you over at every turn. I wanted to kill Udina 15 minutes into ME1, but then he couldn't remain A Critical Hamfisted Plot Device needing assassinating in ME3. :retarded:

Yeah, I haven't expected meaningful choices out of Mass Effect since I played the first one.

Also I've had arguments with biotards that the choices in the ME series are meaningful for reasons that are completely beyond me.

It's not meaningful but if written well it can at least be an interesting choice to make. Writing can never fill in for gameplay when it comes to video games but it can help compensate if it's really good.

It'll be too easy for me because, well, one side here are retarded jailbait-filler and the other were the most interesting part of ME2.

After the whole "Save the Council / Kill them" in ME 1 turns to nothing but meaningless flavour-text in ME 2 no one can say that choices mean anything...

Blowing up or saving the Collector's base will probably only change one line of text in the Illusive man speech.

Notice how in that whole section there is only one dialogue option. This being a beta it shows exactly how Bioware works. Of course this is something we've suspected for a long time but now it's confirmed: they write a linear sequence of dialogue first, and then add flavor options later. No doubt the finished product will be sprinkled with lots of options in that conversation between Shepherd and Anderson and they'll still end up saying the exact same thing as what was shown in the video.

Maybe he was just playing in action mode?

I'm coming around to this 'action mode/story mode' thing. Imagine an RPG where you can skip all the quests and go straight to the end choice! Why slog through endless cutpasta locations and trashmobs when you can instantly join the 17.3%* who actually finish Bioware games?

* Percentage of completion may be lower or higher than indicated.

We already have that, its called youtube. You don't even have to wait the several hours while you don't remove the game from an inventory.

Hmm. If I get time, I'll use the leaked dox to do a pre-emptive narratological review of ME3.
