What's the deal with WotC and TSR campaign settings anyway?
They own them, don't want to license them to anyone, yet they do nothing with them.
Just let it go , it has been over 20 years now

Didn't they say they are willing to license Planescape?

If that's true, then either Fargo lied about asking them or they didn't want to give it to inXile/was too expensive.

Didn't know that until now but it seems they were willing to license it back in 2013.
Maybe some manager rejected them and later he was replaced/moved.
Then the new guy had a different policy regarding retro campaign licensing and made that statement.
That sort of thing is quite common in corporations, to have a vastly different perspective on the same subject.
Speaks volumes

Doesn't mean a lot that they say they're "willing" to license it. Look at what they do, not what they say. WOTC = Beamdog, Sword Coast Legends, all sorts of mobile games, and then suddenly Larian's Baldur's Gate 3. Their approach seems to be either shovelware or the top RPG developer in the industry, nothing in between.

They're not interested in exploring the classic settings, they'd rather focus on "brand synergy" and crossover stuff.

What they're sitting on (and this doesn't include all of them):

What they publish:

(To be completely fair, they've released a Ravenloft adventure/adaptation and some classic module anthologies with footnotes about other settings, but that's about it.)
