What the fucking fuck Matt?
Project Eternity. Raised 3.9 million. Offering DRM-free downloads. Nothing I can find about source code or sharing assets; looks like a traditional copyright model.
Double Fine Adventure. Raised 3.3 million. DRM-free; nothing about source code or CC licensing.

Wasteland 2. Raised: 2.9 million dollars. They are offering a DRM-free digital download, but I don't see anything about sharing the source code, assets, or alternative licensing.
OMG, this is so stupid! What does he want? Open source code for every KS game? These devs give you their finger, and you want their whole arm?

Your evil twin is at it again! It is time to advance the time table for taking his place!

I....I really don't have anything to add. I told you I'm not Matt, I don't have a show so I can't put stuff on it.

But please continue to mix me with him.

J_C reference at 7 minute mark, lol.

Also, why do I love this game so much? It's been 20 years and I just can't figure it out.

If he wasn't Matt he would just have denied it once or twice and moved on. Instead he frantically posts his emotionally charged denials, as he has done for nearly two years now. That's the very definition of trying too hard, so much as to give everything away. It also boosts traffic for his show, as he depends on word of mouth. The controversy he feeds helps him to get new viewers.

It's also why Matt keeps inserting these allusions to his J_C sockpuppet account in his videos, because ultimately he cannot help but help boastfulness get the better of him.

Some words of wisdom from 17:50 onwards, like:

"This is trying to have the complexity of AD&D but not give you enough time to really enjoy it."
"Some of my Amiga friends has recommend just skipping this Eye of the Beholder series and and go straight to a game called Black Crypt"
"EOB has not held up very well".
"I would rather play a good old Gold Box game".

For fuck's sake, Matt: A Feminist Reading of Halo 4

Honestly, JC is the only tolerable Internet personality writing on this matter. The others are either aggressive, inane, or insufferable, clueless academic wannabes.

Even though I don't agree with him, I respect him more because instead of militating aggressively or sounding like a white knight, he tries to explain how we can do better without being a bleeding heart liberal or without a hint of condescension.

He had done this much before anyone else though, he did nearly ten years ago when he talked about the homosexual dwarf in Temple of Elemental Evil.

Honestly I never got this genre. Limited gameplay, fairly linear, very basic puzzles. Like Jeff Vogel said, it's no wonder it fizzled out quickly.

The problem was that the "prototype" - Dungeon Master - was almost perfect, while Chaos Strikes Back (which by no means was linear or had basic puzzles!) perfected the level design and upped the difficulty. So except adding NPCS, and more varied and better quality graphics, there wasn't much to improve. After CSB in 1989, every real time blobber was an anti climax, since none of them had better level design or puzzles.

But I agree the genre is oboslete, but mainly because a single character is more suited to a real time game, than a "blob" of four characters.
I'd really like to see a game top Ultima Underworld, for example.

Strangely enough despite playing the hell out of Dungeon Hack I never really got in to the EoB games. And I never played any of the Gold Box games, the closest I came was Order of the Griffin on a borrowed Turbografx. As I might've mentioned elsewhere here on the Codex I didn't do a hell of a lot of RPGs back then, just a few until Baldur's Gate and Fallout started getting me into them more.

Which now that I think about it is a bit weird since I lean a bit more on the Mondblutian side of things and those two lean heavier on the storyfag side. Especially since basically all of my RPGs before that were light on story and were straight loot whoring dungeon crawls like Dungeon Hack, Castle of the Winds, whatever Rogue I played (Probably just Rogue but damned if I remember), kinda Order of the Griffin, and how I played Ultima 6 was ignore the story entirely and just romp around adventuring like a TES game.

I don't think I ever replayed EoB. It was fun but I just didn't feel like they were real D&D games using the Gold Box series as a baseline.
