Maxis has plans to allow modding for SimCity and they're currently in discussion with the fans about how to implement them. They have decided on the following guidelines though:

  • Acceptable UGC and mods do not jeopardize the integrity of the gameplay or harm the experience of others.
  • UGC that effects the simulation for multiplay games and features are not allowed.
  • Examples of acceptable UGC include swapping art assets, like buildings and vehicles.
  • Maxis reserves the right to take disciplinary action against players who break the rules.

Just forget this ever happened and make SimCity 6 or something like that... god, how I wish that CitiesXL solved their horrible engine issues or that Civitas game didn't die...

In other words, all people will be able to do is cosmetic mods because anything other than that compromises the online only nature of the game. How about get rid of online only, increase plot size and tell people to go nuts with whatever mods they want?

Fuck you Maxis. Fuck you EA.

This pos is unsalvageable. Like the dlc it's an insult to those who bought it and to the fans who have kept their older better games alive through modding. Fuck EA and maxis. Unless a miracle happens, you will not see a proper citysim in the next decade if ever.

They should stop making games altogether, really, and make online casinos or stores or whatever, just not games.

They'll botch that too. Wait 29 minutes to cash out or check out because the casino/store is under heavy load.

So, basically they will allow only mods that resking in a Safe-For-Work way the assets?

No point in mods if you can't have mods that fix the game's crippling flaws. Useless.
