This game is a motherfucker.

The combat is halfway alright, but it's consoley, not "fun" hard like any of the Piranha Bytes games, Dark Messiah, or Severance: Blade of Darkness.

In fact, it's completely opposite of Severance (one of the best 3rd person melee combat games ever made).

It reminds of Devil May Cry: interesting story and visuals but too tough to be entertaining.

It's challenging, but it is also, in 90% of the cases, very fair. If you die, you probably deserved to. And don't even think of playing the game without a control pad. It's possible, yes. It's possible to shovel your driveway with spoon as well, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Yep, I have a 360 gamepad I bought used a while back.

Plugs right into my desktop PC.

Nice analogy of trying to "shovel a driveway with a spoon" BTW.

The game may seem too tough at times, but it's really not. Don't get me wrong, you won't be able to count the number of times you want to (or in fact, do) rage quit on ten fingers, but there are many, many ways to tackle most of the bosses in the game. Dark Souls is a great challenge, but even if you aren't nimble with the control pad, think of things you do in other, less action oriented RPGs. Explore everywhere, make sure you unlock the NPC summons if needed. Check resistances on your gear and see if enemies are vulnerable to certain types of damage. Make sure you can at least use a short bow. Don't be ashamed to farm to become more powerful. And Pyromancy (unlike in the sequel) is basically free magic, to a certain extent.
