Autochess AND Battleroyale? So they just mashed together 2 the most declined genres of the last decade and slapped a M&M logo on it?

I mean what is the TA for that? 10-12 yo zoomers would be scared away by old IP and no self-respecting fan of the original M&M or HoMM series would touch that with a 10 feet pole

Target audience is people that don't care what name is slapped on it anyway.

So they dug a franchise name out of the bin and slapped it on a game that was basically already finished, maybe they can hustle a few bucks from people blinded by nostalgia. I mean seriously look at the models and most characters, they're just generic fantasy crap that look nothing like the originals, this was a game that was basically done BEFORE they called it Heroes of Might and Magic.

Necroing a bit because I stumbled upon this recently.

Oddly enough this game is not monetized. Like not at all, there is no option to buy anything or give them money and the game has no advertisement beyond using the heroes name. It is F2P for the sake of F2P, no profit here. So why the hell are the pushing the brand again now? This is not exploitation of the brand this is almost a bizarre AD for a series in which no new mainline game is anounced or ever likely. Are they hoping to draw traffic to the other heroes mobile brands which are monetized? Did they plan an ingame shop in conception but cut it out due to poor performance? Or is this a way to gauge general mainstream interest in the series?

Raping the franchise even further is it's own reward for Ubisoft.

A standard battle royale game, made as a copy from the Dota 2 mod and the subsequent Lol gameplay mode.
This one isnt very good, optimised for 10 minute rounds and as such pretty shallow.

there should be something in the works at Ubi, in regards to M&M
don't know what/how/when and if it ever pans out, but something is being done

There is this interview after Homm VII failed. In there he said that Heroes on PC is over and heroes is a mobile brand now. But he said that could change due to Chinas influence. This was 2 years ago, and China got a lot more important on the global market in recent years. So maybe a PC Heroes VIII is not off the table yet. Wether it will be good tho is a different question. But I cant explain that auto chess game to myself any other way.

Explained by stupid greedy assholes being in charge of the companies that hold the IPs that use 'market research' to tell them that people don't want certain types of games, while claiming that women are clamoring for 'representation' in FPS games that they don't play.

Just like the jackasses from EA that were outright refusing to make a single player Star Wars game because they claimed 'single player is dead'.

And of course Jedi Fallen Order is still one of the best selling games of 2019 and STILL is one of the best selling games on Steam.

The people in charge of big video game companies DO NOT PLAY video games. That's why so much is trash these days, because people are getting jobs in development based on how well they can sell an idea to a low-SJW executive that has never played an actual video game in their life. It's why there's so much mobile trash with brand names - because mobile games are CHEAP AS FUCK to make, and with aggressive monetization can make a respectable amount of money with minimal effort.

Incidentally they already made a monetized Heroes browser game.

"Hey the last couple Heroes games were not very good sellers and our browser game's microtransactions are almost zero, what do we do?" "OK it's time to revolutionize some paradigms and think outside the box. I hear a lot of buzz about this 'auto chess' from market researchers, make a Heroes game like that." "But none of the fans want that." "Screw them, if they were fans they would have bought the last game. They'll eat up anything we put the name on."

WTF is auto chess?

Very simple tactical game, you manually place your figures on a board and they fight without any further input from the player. 10 players fight a series of 1v1 battles, updating units and changing the team composition between them, until there's one left. It would be a decent enough concept to play on a phone if only the matches weren't 40 minutes long lol
