Complaining about automatic equipment comparison is such a superficial thing. It's just a convenience to the player; it's not like it changes anything about the game itself. It's really no different than being able to hotkey spells or quicksave/quickload. I don't see how this eliminates any kind of needed player skill or knowledge, because if being able to judge which number is higher is something difficult to you, you probably can't even feed yourself without assistance let alone operate a computer.

I guess they could have gone full-on Xeen mode and not tell you shit about an item without having it identified every single time you want to look at its stats but that's just annoying for no reason at all. In a game where the only important aspect of equipment is "which number is higher?" there's no reason not to have an auto-comparison feature.
