Hello, I’m new to the forums but I’ve been a long-term fan of RPG’s in general. I’m currently working on an isometric CRPG set in a world I created some time ago. I wrote over 11k pages or 3.9 million words of lore for the game and published it for free.
If anyone’s interested in finding out more about the world’s lore, you can check out the ISBN: 9798224338436.
Welp, with that out of the way, back to the game.

Mongol is my love child. It started as an RPG Maker game, then it got turned into a point and click, a second RPG, a 3D RPG, an MMO attempt, several other multiplayer attempts and a survival horror until it finally reached its final form, a CRPG, the game I’m currently working on.
It took me a while to finally figure out that I want to work on an RPG, but I’m glad I did.
Here are some in-game shots:

And below you'll find all the development videos of the RPG:

The game is currently free to play and in early access. But I wouldn't recommend you playing it yet, as I've still got a lot of features and extra content to add until it can be called a decent game :D.

Mature Content Description:

Here's a short excerpt from the story/ general description:

"Mongol watched the weary head of Agrippa sitting on a mountain top, but terrified by the hideous noise it was making, he began to turn, fleeing from the laden locust that came out of its mouth and those of its wrathful servants. Since he couldn’t outrun them, he chose to hide near the burial-mounds. There he awaited the arrival of Roach, an eight legged man-like creature with a crooked nose and an eyeless pink face. That moment never came.
Startled, again, he leaped over the mounds and met his maker, a man who had once been a king and whose rule was unquestioned. The world fell silent after he became a god. Even after his ascension, Mongol refused to serve.

Mongol would serve no one. In his mind, the old world had still remained alive. Countless attempts at his life failed. And the perpetrators were punished with a fate much worse than death. With each breath their lungs grew in size, until they became as fat as Zeppelins. Their ribs were shattered. Inhaling the poisonous and colorless gas that surrounded them made them grow infected stingers. Purple patches appeared on their fingers. They were paralyzed with fear as their bodies contorted into bridges. The weaker ones fell, while the strongest survived.

The great god Agrippa had seen them rise and drop bombs upon his lands. But, instead of exploding, they released weird appendages that squirmed.
The face of an ancient god by the name of Agrippa lays on top of a mountain. Before him stand armies of contorted creatures that are under his complete command. He has a chosen servant by the name of Mongol. Agrippa creates an alternate reality where every living being has been replaced by Mongol look-alikes in order to mess with him and his mind.

Agrippa Nestor is an artificial humanoid. He observes people who are on board of the ship he’s in. Their constant chanting reminds him of the people who created him, which in turn causes resentment for giving him sentience. Many of the remaining humans are kept alive by vessels connected to the ship.
Without them, their bodies would die, but not their minds. Agrippa is tasked with watching over them. He is in awe of the memories that were implanted in him, which still haunt him to this day.

There are small meaty boxes floating in his head. He’s constantly struggling to prevent himself from falling apart and decaying on the floor. But his suffering ends one day, when he becomes a god and finds a servant worthy of torture."

Any feedback and tips for turning it into more of an RPG game is deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey and welcome to Dex, enjoy your stay.

I hope you are ready for some good old unmoderated discussions and insults, all in good spirits (someone once got to call Avellone faggot here, right to face!)

I saw some of my pals from some other circles discuss Mongol but I did not give it a try yet! However, I am vocal advocate of any passion projects, especially such insane ones and I will happily check it out!

What game systems do you plan for it, out of curiosity? Ever considered making tabletop system (as, tabletop RPG) out of Mongol setting?

Infinitron Can you give good man here developer tag?

Thank you, fren. I actually don’t mind getting roughed up, or being part of harsher discussion, or even people shitting on me or what I do, lmao.

Also thanks for taking your time checking Mongol out, I really appreciate it.

I haven’t considered turning Mongol into a tabletop game, but maybe in the future, if things get more fleshed out, I might actually do it. There were some attempts at my university, at making tabletop games, but they weren’t related to the main universe.

The thing is that the game “series” and the universe is really niched so people most likely wouldn’t be interested in it. Or at least that’s what I think.

Don’t get me wrong, I want people to like what I make, but at the same time I won’t force it down people’s throats.

About the systems. A d20 ability check with different outcomes. Branching stories. Stats, turn based with some sort of movement, multiple choices, multiple-endings, etc. But mainly a lot of RNG.

Added one of the main antagonists of the story in-game. I need to start researching his speeches and add better dialogue in-game.

Looks Prosperian, approved:obviously:

RPGMaker, MMO, Survival...Hope you stick with CRPG and don't switch up again, I'll be waiting to play this.

Don't worry, I won't. Currently working on the [Divination] mechanic. I'm not home but I'll post the following days. Basically you roll a d20 and then you roll a different d246 that's not animated, I. E. Invisible and based on the result you'll get a page of lore. There are 4600+ different outcomes and hopefully Unity won't crash, but these divination rods will be spread throughout the game and each will have a one time use only.

Here's the mechanic and the progress so far:

I've been writing since late 2015/ early 16 until this very moment but decided to publish/ include it in-game only recently.

Here's the game's pitch:

In a grotesque-looking world, Mongol, a defiant mutant, struggles against the wrath of Agrippa, a former king turned god, an artificially made humanoid, or a simple man who fornicated with a brain, which granted him nigh-omnipotence.

Sounds like BD by Enki Bilal. Cautiously interested. What аre your inspirations for the lore?

I grew up with a lot of comic books, while attending a course I had the opportunity to read a lot of them such as Jean Giraud's Moebius, Asterix, Maus, blueberry westerns, a lot of old sci fi books, etc. H. P. Lovecraft, August Derleth, Clark Ashton Smith, Dune, h.r giger, a lot of visual artists as well. HARLAN Ellison. But again, I'm not home and I can't write on my phone well.

I decided to replace the “Divination” name with “Your brain”. Mongol suffers of schizophrenia. He cannot think properly/ logically anymore. Whenever you click your brain, you are being fed Mongol’s inner thoughts, as a sort of introspection. But it’s important to note that there’s an actual connection between Mongol’s inner-thoughts and the abject reality. Some of his reflections are as real as he is, and others are just nonsense I wrote throughout the years. It’s up the player or his interpretation to decide what’s real and what isn’t. Whether Mongol’s deluding himself or whether he’s directly fed information through an outer conscious stream of information coming from his god, Agrippa.

But let me tell you something. Copy-pasting almost 5k pages, not fun, not fun at all. And since I’m an ESL writer, the quality is fluctuating. A lot. And it’s all in chronological order, meaning D1’s-10 are going to be much worse than D11-20. It’s not like it’s any good, at all, but still.
Before working on games, I wanted or planned on becoming a writer. That didn’t work out. At least I got to work on my world.

Here's a short showcase of the brain:

Everyone's just copying prosper... come on, do something original!
I'm not copying Prosper. I just found out about him and Redaxium a few hours ago. The original Mongol was a 2D RPGM maker game which predates Redaxium by a few months. I.E. the release date. I've been working on the original Mongol since mid -2020 and released it on June 3, 2021. Obviously I can't speak on the development time since Redaxium is a 3D game and he must've been working on it for longer? I think. But still.

This is just the 3D version of my first game.

Check the Publish date on gamejolt.

Here's the original Mongol:

Setting, visuals, and music are very strong, it reminds me of Suicide Squad in how tightly knit the deliberately weird aesthetics are. Really cool stuff, here's hoping the gameplay itself will be up to par in the fun department.

With that being said, excuse the harshness but your writing is plain out bad. It's not you being ESL, it's clearly a lack of literary training. You're overly verbose without being effective and your grammatical constructions are too mundane to reflect the tone and meaning of your ideas. If the game's gonna have lots of reading, you'd do well to improve this aspect.

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate the honesty. Writing isn't my strong forte, per say. By that I mean, I'm rather dogshit at it. That's why I'm trying to use text to speech for the brain because the body of text is simply too big to effectively re-write without hiring an actual editor, which would cost me a fortune.
What I at least hope is that I'll be able to write the dialogue well, and use S.A.M TTS which is pretty awful itself, to sort of dilute the quality of the brain text, or at least distract from it.
Again, I can't stress how important feedback is for the game.

Here's a sample of what it'll sound like:

Vocaroo TTS Sample 1

Vocaroo TTS Sample 2

I know it's not an excuse to be lazy when it comes to rewriting. But I'll have to be realistic as well. I'm not a good game developer, I'll be honest. There's no need to delude myself. Or that good of an artist of writer. Yet, I hope I'll make something kind of passable with some tricks, or by using smoke and mirrors to distract from my shortcomings.

Also, I don't believe you're being harsh and I appreciate it. A lot.

I think using SAM is a fantastic idea because it fits with the conceptual weirdness. You might be going a bit overboard with the effects tho, it's very difficult to make out the words and there are some grating high frequencies hard to withstand.

I'd say editor are good for final passes and often not needed if the quality you're aiming for doesn't warrant the investment. At the stage you're at, however, acquiring even some minimal education with tutorials on communicating your ideas more efficiently will be an improvement. Tools such as AI and Hemingway App can be good, but I recommend staying away from them until you know what you're using them for.

If you're finding your own text hard to digest, think how it'll impact a first-time reader with no emotional investment and a backlog of other stuff to try. While artistic commitment is paramount to create something of value, don't forget that what you're offering is also a product, and as such there are basic expectations on the consumer side.
Smoke and mirrors are great tools, skimping on details is a great way to disguise your weak spots, but even then, having a solid ground to stand upon will help you better assess what to hide and what to show.

After reading some more it reminds me a lot of "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream"... was that story a big influence for you?

Also what's not clear to me is, who is Mongol and what is his goal? Who is Agrippa and what is his goal? Do you have these things clearly mapped out?

If not then I think that's where you should start. Figure out where you're trying to get to, then work backward from there to decide what the player should be experiencing as they play the game.

Smoll-ish update. Took a two month break because of mental health problems. On top of the psychosis, schizoid personality disorder and depression, I may have been diagnosed with OCD. I’m waiting for my psychologist to send a medical report to my psychiatrist by the end of this month so I can get some meds and finally be able to work on the game undisturbed.

I was unable to do anything and am currently “handicapped” by my distractions and intrusive thoughts. :DDD. But as soon as I get medicated, it'll be good. Work will continue as per usual.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through it, but I'm happy you're taking steps to move forwards! Your game looks interesting, and I'm excited to check it out when it's complete.
