I tried the first SE, and really couldn't cope with the new cartoon graphics, and ended up replaying the original games on scummVM...

Why didn't you just play it with the original graphics and interface that is included with the SE?

Scummvm is just plain better than the original version (except the mt32 emulator who was "threatened with legal action" by roland, bitches that they are). Bugfixes, scalers, play on portables, etc.
Only really irritating thing about scummvm is the enforcement they insist on uncracked games (and retain the copy protection).
