Decided I wanted to rattle the monkey cage a little today. This is the topic I came up with.

So, who in your opinion is the biggest douchebag in the CRPG world, past or present, and why? Remember, Cleve doesn't count because you have to actually "produce" something in order to be considered a part of an "industry".

Edit: ^^^ Yeah. Him.

I'll throw out one of the obvious ones, just to try to get this rolling a little.

Todd Howard.

The name incites fear and loathing. The man most responsible for arguably the most controversial CRPG in existence, Oblivion. He took his company in a very different direction, catering to a great degree to the console crowd and focusing more on the graphical appeal of his games than their depth and sophistication. He is controversial himself, since how can one argue with the financial success accorded to Bethesda since his rise to power?

Is he teh devil?

Todd Howard is definitely the biggest faggot in the industry right now. Besides bringing the endless cavern of shit knows as Oblivion, he is responsible for making Bethesduh a factory of dumbfuckery. If anyone needs a kick in the balls right now, it's Todd.

my vote goes to Todd "RPG's are all about knights on horseback running around and killing things" Howard.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with Todd too.

Guys over at Bioware, while sucking, at least try to do something interesting.

Like I said, my vote is for Peter "RPGs should be so dumbed down that a 5 month old can beat them" Molyneux.

Why say 'past or present' when everyone's just going to pick people making RPGs today?

: *ring* Hey Todd, it's me. The mysterious CFO of Zenimax.

todd1.jpg
: Yo, what up dawg.

zenimax.jpg
: Well, it has come to our attention, that you might be causing a type of, how shall we say it, a decline in RPG gaming.

todd1.jpg
: What are you talking about? Exploding body parts, riding on horseback! Thats the true RPG experience! And I created it all!

zenimax.jpg
: Yes Todd we know however... *ring* Oh, let me put you on hold for a second Todd.

zenimax.jpg
: Mysterious Zenimax CFO here. Oh! You have the latest sales reports for Fallout 3 and all of the latest DL's? Good and... WHAT???? *click*

zenimax.jpg
: Todd, everything is fine, carry on... on horseback or whatever it is you do.

Todd for sure. People who vote Petey are insane and newfags. Sure, he shat on the RPG genre with Fable. I don't like people taking a piss on the genre, but everyone is doing that now, so.
On the other hand, Molyneux did grace us with Dungeon Keeper, Magic Carpet, Syndicate, Populous and Theme Park.

Plus Fable has a certain fun charm to it even if it's complete wank as a game. There is nothing charming or fun about Oblibion or Failout 3.

Peter Molyneux

This.

Todd Howard is a douchebag but he's just a pawn, the problem with Bethesda stems from the ZeniMax corporate structure and kicking out Weaver.

Molyneux is like a cancer, continually dragging the entire industry down by spreading his lies as legions of fanboys and journos troupe in to suck his dick.
Then again, his influence on the RPG industry has been fairly minor.

Todd wasn't always bad. He was in charge of Morrowind and Redguard - the games where Elder Scrolls lore got really deep and took off. He also helped in the design process of Daggerfall. But then again, he did a complete 180 and completely destroyed the series in Oblivion and Shiverwinter Islepeaks. He also put out the travesties known as Fallout 3 and the Fallout 3 DCL. Yes, every game in the series was a complete joke aside from the original, but that's like saying it's okay for one guy to be a genocidal dictator because there were lots of genocidal dictators in his country before him (and Bethesda also said that they were sticking to the original Fallout, which was obviously not the case). Todd leads a team who are all liars and miscreants, cherishing nothing while raping and pillaging everything in their path, and calling themselves the good guys and amassing a multitude of zombie followers. They're like the Catholic Church and Todd is the Pope.

Molyneux is a fag. He's filled with so much hype and shit it's a wonder he hasn't exploded yet. While Fable I was moronic, Fable II is one of the worst games and indeed one of the worst narratives to ever be unleashed upon mankind. It is filled with so much stupid there is not even a word that can describe the black hole of logic that it created. It not only forever put a black scar on the RPG genre, but was a huge contribution to the decline of games in general. Black and White were similarly disgusting insults to games. However, Molyneux is treated like a god within the community, and has this omnipotent power to control everyone he comes in contact with and all media. Money is thrown at the horrible shit he produces like its not worth a damn, and everyone loves it while their brains rot away. In the eyes of the world nothing stands on the same grand level as Peter Molyneux. While companies and designers become popular and then fade away, Molyneux stays. He is unchanging. He is everlasting. He is destroying gaming from the inside out and his loyal brainwashed followers believe what he's doing is the right thing to do - the best thing - the greatest thing in the history of the world. HOWEVER, we all do know about Molyneux's glorious past, and how he once helped incline the gaming scene. BUT, no one followed in his footsteps. There was not a clone of Populous. There was not a clone of Dungeon Keeper. There was not a clone of Syndicate. Those ideas were born and died with Molyneux. They didn't create a legacy. They are now merely footnotes.

It's a tough call. Can't we just mix their DNA to create some sort of hellish offspring and hate that?

Black and White 1 was actually pretty damn good, had a fun time with it despite the shallowness. The sequel on the other hand was a total failure, not improving on shit but instead breaking the AI.

After all those fucking advertisements and previews in PCG and GCW I was incredibly disappointed after I got my hands on that pile of broken shit. It wasn't fun. It was a huge lie.

Ironically, my lack of seeing the preview for Fable causes me to hate it to a lesser degree than most.
