The one person a charge is a pretty big limit already in a game that is based around large battles. It's enough to restrict me to using crouching only on horses (which I can kill more than one a charge and are meaty enough that they don't go down in a fast hit from my trusty balanced knight's lance).

Having a key to actively initiate crouching is a good idea basically, but i think it is not well implemented. it takes too long to crouch the lance and i have problems now to point it on a target, at least with the lance on the training grounds. I hope it gets better with better equipment and char-skills. As it is now I will just use a sword on a horse as a better alternative (faster and more swings on more enemies and thrusting is easier too)

Its couching FFS! COUCHING!

I agree the new system is a pain, press-to-couch + aiming lance with mouse means it's too unpredictable where the lance is pointed when you press X, and there's often not enough time to correct the aim in the short window available. I hope they'll bring back old-style couching as an option in a patch.

Couching? You can´t sit on any furniture in the game. There is no sit-animation implemented. A crouching-animation at least is implemented in the module system. Please stop your weak trolling attempts and stay serious.

I don´t think they have to skip the press key system entirely for singleplayer. Couching was overpowered even in sp. But it needs tweaking. Maybe make the time you can have your lance couched depending on your strength and the speed for initiating couching dependent on your agility. Maybe it´s already in. Hadn´t time to test this yet.

If you're getting this game, it's pretty much for the multiplayer. I haven't seen a feature mentioned for single player that hasn't been accomplished with mods already.

But seriously, the multiplayer if a complete hoot. I've been going at it in the beta for over a month now. Playing with other people makes you realize how the places where the game really shines(infantry combat) are made entirely obsolete by the swarm-like AI in single. The weapon balance and combat mechanics are perfect for playing against other players. Cavalry strikes opportunistically and works well in open fields, archers thin out large groups, and infantry sport the largest variety of equipment. Not only that, but the factions interact interestingly as well, and the equipment/stats for each reflect their single-player stereotypes quite nicely imo.

Not only that, but the equipment available to you scales with your ranking on your team. So the leader of the pack on your side is going to have better eq, while the bottom of the rung is going to be toting free shit. Admittedly, this has a way of making the rich richer as it were, but its' not game breaking by any stretch of the imagination. You can fight your way to the top and obviously still get knocked off, on top of that, the most interesting modes depend on the success of your entire team as opposed to your own kills.

Team deathmatch is crap, deathmatch is fun when you feel like playing for a few minutes/kicking nooby ass, and battle and siege are genuinely fun to play, especially with friends.

I'm having trouble finding the info, but is Battle mode something like co-op vs AI?
No, there is a custom battle mode that MIGHT feature coop, I think it's just single player however. But, virtually any mode can be made into coop vs ai given that bots are an option everywhere.

Battle = 1 life per round, eliminate the opposing team to win the round

Search and destroy = destroy the objectives in a given amount of time

Siege = keep the flag defended for a certain amount of time, usually at the center of a pretty neat castle with soft-checkpoints put in, like those assaulting can open gates so they don't have to start by climbing the walls etc.

That sucks, cavalry is already OP without it. Must be complete easy-mode now.
they could reduce the hitpoints of horses. it's ridiculous what kind of punishment those things can take.

The warhorses are tough, but the saddle horses and coursers are particularly vulnerable to throwing weapons(the speed works against them). It also helps that the arc of a throwing axe when thrown against a horse charging head on will almost always score a head shot.

The big issue with cavalry isn't something that can be easily remedied without hamstringing them too much though imo. They are just highly opportunistic, which is why I don't understand why they would have made it even easier for them to score hits when people aren't looking. It's already simple enough come up behind infantry and nail them in the back, the old couching system just makes it braindead easy.

The great lance should be shortened however. It isn't appropriate that you can outrange an infantry pike with one. Swadian cavalry is particularly broken for that reason in addition to the fact that the man-at-arms class has better armor than the swadian infantry, throwing darts, and a heavy bastard sword. Fuck, I regularly play man-at-arms and drop the horse from my eq even. The great lance makes an awesome anti-cavalry weapon on foot to boot even.

The good news is that cavalry abuse is mitigated by the fact that too much cavalry on the same team will tangle itself up.

The old couching lance system was a fucking joke; especially being able to use a staff as a couched lance. If they added that back into the game, then it is :decline:.

I mean, you can thrust while riding at high speed FFS; it might be harder for you to do so (since couching attacks were ridiculous in the first place, and this requires some actual skill and timing) but if you can do it well it does a good bit of damage.
