Bio haters take note: 1.64 introduced an AI bug that effectively stops most nonhumanoid creatures from using magical abilities. It turns out the only reason the AI worked at all was because they had two bugs working at cross-purposes

I didn't know BIo released two different 1.64s. <>

It's been 2+ years. If you haven't finish the OC yet you ain't goin' to. Bets to try other stuff if you have an inklin' for NWN.

Depends, how you view them. By the rules, they dodn't technically count; but they skeles can be considered humanoid in one way since they have 2 arms, 2legs, and one head, and they stand up striaght. Imps are not humanoid at all.

Icertainly don't see this problem. Just got zapped by beholders a few minutes ago. LOL

Though, it could be a bug that effects a small number of people. Alan is not one to make stuff up so I give him the benefit of the doubt. <>

It's scary when one starts considering purchasing NWN platinum because one's comp will choke on Bloodlines and there's simply nothing else coming in the near future.

Hey, Volourn, you learned a few more keys: <>, eh? Did you know that if you press Shift and a number key, you may get a different character too, like # or %? Try it out, it's cool.

I wonder how Spaz would feel if you 'forced' me to reply with a simple 'No'. :D

I should have been more specific. It's based on the classes that the being has; most humanoids have PC levels, while nonhumanoids have levels in Outsider, Magical Beast, and so forth.

PC classes are immune; a skeleton mage would have wizard levels, and so would be OK. Anyway, the bug doesn't hit undead, outsiders, constructs, elementals, or dragons, so I guess it isn't "most" nonhumans after all. It hits things like giants, animals, magical beasts, shapechangers, and so forth. For instance, manticores won't throw spikes, and krenshar won't howl.

Beholders would be hit by the bug, but they have special AI scripts. Abilities that are on the creature's claws or hide are not disabled, so Gelatinous Cubes still get their paralysis attacks.

Is this a common bug? Youa re the only one I've seen mention this though I don't check the Bug report forums..

I have eprsonally yet to see this problem either off or on line. Though, I know that PWs do have more of a stability issue. Not major; but more than before..

It seems to be true.

I was running through HoTU again, and so far none of the Umber Hulks have tried to use their daze attack.

You can test this by building a test mod with a hostile manticore. See if it fires spikes.

There's an unconfirmed rumor that the bug only hits people who did the critical rebuild, which would imply that Bio didn't recompile their scripts properly in the patch. Come to think of it, that might explain how 1.64 got out of beta without anyone noticing this.

wesleyclark, did you patch normally, or via the rebuild?

Well, so much for that rumor.

Anyway, if you've got the bug, there's a fairly easy fix. But you have to recompile some Bio scripts to make it work. There's a thread over on the NWN scripting boards that discusses how to do it.
