As a rough guess, action 'RPG' (read hack n slash with minimal 'stats' which have no fundamental influence on gameplay) where the player takes the part of Aragorn, Galadriel, Radagast, Saruman or Gandalf to infiltrate Dol Guldur and rid Mirkwood of Sauron's presence.

edit: oh I forgot, there will be a dwarf. Even though the White Council had no dwarves in the Tolkien works, there will be a playable dwarf. With an axe. And if voiced with a Scottish accent.

EA is so dumb with their non sport licenses. It would be so easy to build a franchise using the Tolkien license if they actually made some good games with it. Instead, they'll squeeze out every dime they can while the movies are still fresh in the minds of soccer moms everywhere and have a license that doesn't mean much in a couple years.

I'm on an eXile kick, and I just read this (re: Lord of the Rings).

(I bring this up because all of the EA LotR shit is obviously gonna be patterned after the movies; Sadly, probably everything anyone ever does with LotR from now on will be patterned after the movies)

I especially liked the part about the elves. I actually ran into generic fantasy before reading the LotR, and I had it in my head that elves were basically faggy, effeminate humans, being run out of town by us fecund lesser primates. I never read them in the sort of "grand human" sense that I suppose Tolkein meant them, a la the Roy Batty comparison.

Problem I have is a lot of fantasy writers tend to make elves exactly like Tolkien elves, one of the reasons I left Forgotten Realms was because Elaine Cunningham basicly turned the damn place into Middle Earth as far elves were concerned and was converting the rest.

Nah, only some of the elves are ubermen (eg Noldo). Others are just dunedain with pointy ears (sindar)* and some are just tree-hugging fags (silvan).

Of course, EA could surprise us all and come out with a rich and rewarding roleplaying game.

*although some would argue that the dunedain are more like 'superman' in the eugenics sense.
