Sammael, as a long time FR fan, all I can say who cares. Oops, sorry, that's easy. You and the other extremist nuts do. That's who. Quite frankly, change should be welcomed if it better things.
I didn't say I cared. I merely observed that he did change the setting in several aspects, and that doing a similar thing to FO would certainly not be welcomed by the FO community.

The one thing SKR did to FR which I absolutely loathe (and have told him so many times) is the new cosmology. Things that don't bother me as much (but do bother many others) are population changes for most of Faerun, removal of many languages, re-positioning of cities (and entire regions) on the map, and last, but not least, the return of Bane (which was decided by a poll on the WotC site - *sigh*).

Odd, I never even mentioned anything about English being more or less logical than Russian or whatever other language. Simply because maybe I wrote in English when I called Russian orthography "funky" and suggested that they spell stuff the way it's pronounced for simplicity, though I doubt that that's what caused such responses, since English is the common language on these forums, and that's blatantly obvious. Though now that you bring this up, yes, I do agree that English has far worse problems in the area than Russian. And French, definitely. They need to really dump the silent letters that are all over the place.

But Bane was the only interesting god the FR cosmology had. That lame Cyric crap just didn't compare.

What got moved on the map, by the by? And what languages wandered off?

I recall from a "Countdown to FR" feature in Dragon Magazine that discussed map changes that for one thing, they cut out the entirety of the Shaar (I think), which leaves halfling characters kinda hosed.

No Elwro is right, actually. It is spelt as if it's pronounced "horosho" but since the first two vowels aren't stressed, they become interchangeable with "a" during pronounciation and it is pronounced "harasho". Funky Russian orthography. Why not just spell it like you pronounce it.

Russian is originally spelt with cyrillic. It's just the American transliteration.

It's really not as intriguing as it seems, Lamat. I pretty much have the whole backstory except I don't think I'm allowed to tell anyone publically. Message me if you're interested.

Oh. Why is it still there then?

And unlike many other people, SKR is actually able to joke about himself and his phat ping-pong skillz.
i was just gonna say that... he did take it all rather well. it would be interesting to hear what he really thinks about the whole interplay mess... no career hanging over his head and all.

Eh, didn't mean to derail the thread into a discussion about languages. All i meant was that the developers of Fallout 2 might have gotten more things right, if they had the same interest in reading some of the history behind locations in Fallout 1.

Now go back to discussing ping-pong.

Fallout 2 would have gotten more things right if the locations in the game actually fit the 50's pulp science fiction post-apocalyptic setting from Fallout. The tribals were completely out of place and the placement of the settlements was completely nonsensical, especially with the tribals living just next to a civilized town. That was understandable back in the 1800s wild west, but that was only because the civilized men arrived while the Apache were still running around and scalping the foreheads of the members of other tribes.

On the other hand, Klamath was probably around way before the tribals arrived, and what's funny is that they didn't even arrive as tribals. They were pretty much civilized people when the Vault Dweller lead them into the valley, 'away from civilization'. Funny how 'away' would only be a couple of squares away. Black Isle Studios clearly fucked up on that instance, as well as a lot of other things in the game.

In my personal conception of Fallout 2, the VD would have died after finding the waterchip, killing the master, and slaying the Overseer. He'd have wandered off into the wastes, embroiled himself in further plots (rather than establishing a new home) and mysteriously dissapeared. The player in FO2 would have started as another Vault Dweller, from one of the other unopened vaults, or possibly from Vault City. There would have been no tribals whatsoever, only survivors.

I wonder how the Chosen One managed to start with skills in Science, Speech, Repair (especially pertaining to mechanical repair), Small Guns, Large Guns, Energy Weapons, Gambling, or even Doctor. That makes no sense, for fucks sakes.
