The Original "Neverwinter Nights"; "Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide"; "Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark" All-in-One This October

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 2004-- "Neverwinter Nights"(TM), developed by BioWare Corp. and published by Atari, Inc. under license from Hasbro, Inc., has captured the hearts and minds of PC gamers worldwide with one of the most captivating Dungeons & Dragons® role-playing experiences to ever grace a computer screen. Based in the Forgotten Realms® universe, created and published by Wizards of the Coast, the "Neverwinter Nights(TM) Platinum Edition" will give gamers a chance to rediscover the magic, extend the experience or even explore it anew this October.

The "Neverwinter Nights Platinum Edition" will feature all of the most compelling aspects of "Neverwinter Nights" gaming including an extensive 100-hour official campaign, which is also playable in multiplayer mode; the amazing "Neverwinter Nights Aurora Toolset" which lets players create their own adventures, and the Dungeon Master(TM) client that allows players to step into the shoes of the Dungeon Master to tell their own stories; and, most importantly, access to an absolutely thriving player community brimming with content and support.

The "Neverwinter Nights Platinum Edition" will come complete with both best-selling, official expansion packs "Neverwinter Nights(TM): Shadows of Undrentide" and "Neverwinter Nights(TM): Hordes of the Underdark." New features in "Shadows of Undrentide" include an extensive single-player campaign; new skills, including Tumble and Appraise; new feats, such as Divine Might, Great Cleave and Bullheaded; new weapons, such as Holy Water Flasks and Choking Powder; five new prestige classes, including the Blackguard, Shadowdancer and Assassin; new monsters from the D&D® universe, including the Pit Fiend, Cockatrice, Sphinx and Manticore; and more than 50 additional spells.

The second official expansion pack, "Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark" also includes a new single-player campaign, designed for high-level characters and set amidst the famous city of Waterdeep and the foreboding Underdark. "Hordes of the Underdark" significantly expands upon the "Neverwinter Nights" universe, most notably with the addition of Epic Level gameplay. Based upon the D&D game supplement "Epic Level Handbook"(TM), Epic Levels will be available for characters who have reached level 20, allowing them to advance as far as level 40. "Hordes of the Underdark" also introduces several new prestige classes, including the Shifter, a druidic class specializing in shape shifting; dozens of new feats, such as Epic Reputation, Craft Weapon and Armor Skin; a multitude of new weapons and spells, many designed solely for epic level characters; challenging new creatures pulled straight out of the Underdark, including Mind Flayers, Beholders and Driders; several new character voice sets for even greater character customization; and 17 new epic soundtracks from composer Jeremy Soule.

In addition, both expansion packs equip module makers with additional content for the "Neverwinter Nights Aurora Toolset," the groundbreaking software included with the full game that allows players to create their own universes, quests and storylines. The "Neverwinter Nights Platinum Edition" will also give players a chance to experience some of the most popular and exciting fan-generated modules created using the "Neverwinter Nights Aurora Toolset." Modules are complete stand-alone adventures that allow players to take part in entirely new stories and adventures within their favorite Dungeons & Dragons worlds.

"Neverwinter Nights Platinum Edition" will be available at retail stores nationwide this October for an estimated retail price of $39.95. Additional information about the "Neverwinter Nights Platinum Edition" can be found online at www.bioware.com.

Yeah, because it would be perfectly legal for them to charge _sell_ work that the _community_ did.

Uh, no. All improvments were BIo made. Nice try, though.

Grenade weapons and lootable corpses, for starters. Alot of the creatures not included in the original release were also done first--and in many cases better--by the "community".

No, these were done by BIO. The fact that modders did them as well is irreleavnt since for most people they meant absolutely nothing. Nice try. Try again.

History proves otherwise.

There's a little clause in most game editting tools developers release that typically states that if you use those tools to make something, that something is the property of the developers. It used to be to keep third parties from bundling up maps for a game and selling them, but it could be used to bundle up that community expansion and toss it in the platinum dealie.

Strange. I always thought that you were only restricted from selling your product, not forced to surrender all rights to The Company.

yeah, thats what i was thinking, but putting it into the box would force bio to offer support to the compatch as well, right (unless they add it as some sort of "unsupported prize bundle" or "mail this ticket and get the compatch for free! promotion")?

Didnt they release a bunch of fan maps with Half-Life: Opposing Force?

I dunno, I think its cool when they include fan made stuff, as long as they give credit.

The thing is, i would be tempted to buy that (if i was taking into consideration things like the ability to make or download an actually good module and gather an actual good group of good roleplayers to play in it), if i didn't already know NWN2 is on its way. If its meant to be an improvement in most crucial areas, then why bother with an inferior copy?
