I honestly hope Obsidian breaks the cycle and manages to release a finished game despite the relatively small development time they've been given. New Vegas could be pretty great, but after KotoR 2, I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet.

It´s a good thing that Oscuro joins their team. He modded Oblivion away from leveled encounters to a less playercentered world.

I agree, this can only be good news for Bethesda and us. Apparently that which does not kill you can only make you stronger, and any modders who survived the fires of Oblivion have to pretty talented and enthusiastic.

From what I've heard, Sawyer is tweaking the gameplay pretty extensively.

Beautiful. I thought FO 3 was the poster child for wasted potential.

I have no fucking clue. You think it's sad when talented people get jobs in the industry?

oh, pshaw, my dear fellow.

no, that he got a job in the business he clearly loves is fucking marvelous, but the sad thing is that their professional developers need his help in the first place.

now, pray tell, have i struck sufficient light upon this matter so that the facts are clear?

It's not that your opinion wasn't clear, Luzur, it's just retarded.

Never liked Obcuro's mod. Didn't particularly care for a large portion of the difficulty resulting from having to fight packs of normally solitary animals (bears, for example) that had their hit points dramatically upped.

Always preferred a combo of MMM and Francesco's. Introduced plenty of new enemies, loot and game mechanics (like a much better crafting system) without stupid stuff hampering it.
Agree with this, Oscuro's mod was commendable I guess but felt bloated. A shame no massive overhaul mod ever came about that fixed the entire game, including the stupid main storyline and gameworld/dungeon blandness. People only touched things up.

Heh, time shows. I'm trying to keep neutral attitude toward LV, but somehow I don't believe that Obsidian will change much in this horrible combat system, avoid placing the stuff that made FO3 crappy or make proper engine optimization. 1 year of development ain't good thing either.

And games come out on time, since when...?

Easy, quick fix for shitstorm that is FO3 gameplay: Remove 50% of the spawn points and/or spawn frequency. It's not a "wasteland" --- OK, it wasn't much of a wasteland period --- if you run into a heard of critters every 5 feet.

MMM is worse. Does the same thing Genma is complaining about, but also tweaks the AI agressiveness so critters are also aggro toward each other. End result: You wander from one huge pile of bodies to the next, rarely doing anything more than looting corpses.

The forces at Obsidian made the decision that he is good enough to be a professional developer. In other words, Obsidian isn't requesting help from some modder; they're getting help from a fellow professional game developer.

I use the optional esp files to reduce spawns, but kept the aggressiveness between species.

It's stupid that a dozen different creatures could occupy an area, totally peaceful, only to lose their minds the moment you walk by. Ignoring each other even when you use a cloaking spell, in their urge to rip your head off.

So now I get more variety and all the other features, and I'm no longer the only person all the enemies in the game seem to hate.

Oblivion modder making new Fallout game

no comment

I think it's pretty symbolic. Hiring an overrated modder that didn't fix anything in Oblivion - pretty much shows how different Failout 3: New Reno 2 will be from Failout 3

Bethesda hired the guy who made the combat mod for MWSE/MWE (I think it's the latter and the same guy that also wrote MWE. Correct me if I'm wrong) that made it actiony and less sucky. Oblivion still sucked. Don't get excited just because they're hiring a modder.

Well, good for him! I bet this is his dream come true so that's cool at least. Though I've never played his mod.

Oh... was I suppose to say something about Skyway?

Judging from his homepage: 1) OOO isn't the only project he successfully worked on, just the most famous one, 2) he's skilled in more than just the Oblivion CS, 3) he seemingly planned to get the attention of professional game developers with the application of self-taught skills which may be important in game development - plus some dedication.

All in all, the fact he's working for Obsidian and on Fallout 3: Las Vegas now doesn't make much of a difference to me - he hasn't shown enough to make me think he's an addition in that he'll make it a better RPG or Fallout game (I don't know his take on Fallout or RPGs in general). But it's nice to see you can still get in the industry through the back door, the entry a lot of the talent of the days of yore used.
