Isn't Darklands the progenitor of sandbox RPGs?

Bah. These new game developers, they think the games never existed before they were born.

Anyone remenbers Faery Tale adventure back in 1987.

http://www.mobygames.com/game/amiga/fae ... creenshots

A huge sandbox that playes Diablo style.

Or even Starflight in 1989.

http://www.mobygames.com/game/amiga/sta ... creenshots

A playable sandbox with more than 100 starfields to explore, without any barriers.

What about Elite? There's not even a record of the first one in Moby games, but i think we can consider this a sandbox game.

Just to mention a few.

NMA did a retrospective interview with 5 of the Interplay 'n BIS people that managed the title. It might be an interesting exercise to compare quotes (was waiting for VD's newspost, but alas?)

Well sorry grandpa, my memories only go back well to the first Gulf War, and that's the way I likes it.

It's coming. Didn't have time to post anything the last few days.

Your loss. Granpa? Games only started to become popular in 1980 or something.

Did you mean PC games? Because there were games long before 1980. And I am no Grandpa but I remember them. Pinball machines and even arcade games before consoles started to make it into our houses. And of course the old personal PCs or IBM clones as they were sometimes called back in the stone age.

But hey... don't let me spoil the fantasy.

Edit: Not to mention board games galore.

The "open ended" value of Fallout is completely scripted. You have two choices besides dieing. It's really nothing special.

These people are the worst corporate hacks i've ever seen. The Bush admistration had at least 30 reasons lined up for the invasion of the Iraq war and all these guys can come up with is "blowing the shit out of the first town you encounter."

They're not even trying. You know why? They dont care. They're going to insert their ideas (if you can call them that) anyway.

I thought that was obvious. But go ahead and post a list of games that were made since the beginning of times just to be sure.

Not from that QA session but interesting nonetheless. This is from a senior producer in charge of all of their artists.

What would you say is your personal favorite game of all-time?

No way to pick just one, but several that come to mind as my all time favorites are Dark Forces, Halo, Doom, Diablo II, Mario 64, SSX, Half-Life 2, Bioshock and Oblivion.

Why exactly is he working for a company that makes RPGs?

The last two quotes are not bad. Everyone tried to kill every person in a town in Fallout just for fun. What's so bad about that?

I didn't

I certainly didn't try to, but when the whole town aggroed because I was rude to sheriff of Shady Springs I definately pulled a "Fuck you guys!"
