It's kind of wierd to see kingcomrade and Chefe arguing for over a page since I sometimes can't really tell them apart. Anyways--

P4s DO overheat like motherfuckers and they CAN'T handle it--mine keeps crapping out on me.

Anyways, about the whole overheating thing...

You're all idiots.

P4's run hotter because they can handle running hotter. They were built to withstand running hotter. They can take it. Intel designed them to. ATI's run cooler, thus they don't need to be designed for extreme temperatures.

Intels run hotter. Intels can handle it.

I think you meant "AMDs run cooler". Intel vs AMD, ATI vs Nvidia.. Just to chirp in. So technically you are incorrect and ipso facto you could be deemed to be the idiot. Doesn't feel good when the shoes on the other foot does it? Huh. Does it!

My second post. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Asides from plainly crapping out--heat means greater power draw, you know? More stress on the motherboard and power supply? Need for more powerful cooling? Absolutely detrimental for server environments?

requirements high? requirements are freakin 4 yr old system components.... reccommended is high, ...

How well do you think the game is going to run on the "minimum" requirements? I am pretty sure anything to be playable will be the recommended specs. Minimum will run the game, but it will be bullshit.
well considering you can turn off lighting, shadows, etc. I really don't see any reason it wouldn't run well with minimum requirements. I mean, this is a highly customizable pc game, not some piece of crap console port with almost no settings to play with
Minimum=pretty slideshow. No matter what game, what company, or even what year. You should know if you've played PC games for any length of time, so cut the bullshit. Running Oblivion on minimum will be like watching a snot-nosed kid smear crayons on the wall.

been playing PC games since the PC game scene first started.... though I'll admit that I haven't been anywhere near the minimum requirements or lower for any game in a very long time. Not like computer upgrades are all that expensive as long as you don't try to get top of the line everytime.... my computer is almost 2 years old and meets/exceeds the reccomended specs, and I paid like 1300$ for it total including 17" lcd.... when it was new 1-2 years ago

but imagine what that unneccissary aditional heat does to the rest of your system, that wasn't built with Intel's 'uber superheat protection'.... eep

I haven't upgraded my Compaq for a year now, and as it's a cheap OEM turd, I can barely run the new eyecandy games (eg. FEAR).

Levski, don't fret... NO ONE can run run FEAR with an acceptable frame-rate, regardless of the machine they have :). FEAR is one of the most hyped, worthless, horribly programmed and unoptimized resource-hogs ever released. Half-Life 2 has better graphics times a zillion.
