You could interpret this to be more about Bob Page's character. Demonstrating that he was meddling with things he didn't understand, and wasn't nearly as smart as he thought he was.

Except that Time Magazine has a cover in the game that reads "Aquinas Rising." Which leads me to believe that the developers just threw the reference to sound mature without really understanding it (it's still a great game though).
