not really, played hundreds of hours with its various iterations without problem,
sometime along the way mod lists with barely any mods became the new cool thing and it cut 90% of them.

That's not the issue. Some of the mods on the guide might not be compatible with each other anymore, and newer versions of mods might have new requirements for them to work that aren't covered by the guide, and keeping track of it all is a chore (like how there's been even more new NVSE variations released recently). You can try getting around this by downloading older versions of the mods, but some modders are dicks and don't archive their old mod versions on the Nexus.
