so, the sequel to omf: 2097. anyone played it? what's the official codexian opinion? looks interesting, and the music is brilliant, but not sure if worth buying... and no, i'm not going to pirate it. at least until i get a answer.

Beta tested it, it's awful which is a shame. Best part is the remix of the theme.

Huh, don't think there was any non-theme music in the beta, that isn't bad. Might have to see if I can dig up a download of the soundtrack somewhere. Good background music.

What is OMF?
The One Must Fall series. Usually refers to the first game, One Must Fall : 2097. It was a pretty unique fighting game done by Diversions entertainment mid-ninties. It had a incredibly in-depth backstory for a fighting game. The basic idea is it's the distant future and fighting with giant robots is a major sport. You must fight other competitors and finally Hans Kreissack for control of the moon Ganymede. Notable for letting you select both a pilot (which determines your stats) and your bot (which determines your moves). The real focus of the game was it's tournament mode, which let you design your own pilot and bot and compete in different tournaments (or campaigns) where you have to manage your cash and bots vs. pilots abilities and strengths. Quite fun game overall, and also has the prestige of being the 'Dex's favoritest fighting game.

2097 is great and free nowadays

battlegrounds is neither great nor free... the use of 3d is clumsy, the animations are bad and the whole things is buggy as hell... there are some vids on youtube and a demo that supposedly deletes all your porn kills your system (had it installed for about 10 minutes when it came out, so i didn't notice)

Too bad... so much wasted potential...

Did Diversions Entertainment even make Battlegrounds? Or was it someone else?

I owned OMF back in the '90s, which is what I played along with MK. Got my ass handed to me due to my computer being unbearably slow, ragequit, and fast forward 18 years later, I've installed it again on Dosbox, got my ass kicked again due to my lack of skills and then shamequit.

So how many hookers do I have to strangle to get a non-assed 2d OMF 2097 modern remake on a cutting edge engine like UT3?

A 2D remake using Unreal Engine 3? o_O

Why would you need a remake anyway? OMF has aged really well and is still a blast to play.
