Strap Yourselves In Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Wasteland 2 Codex USB, 2014 Divinity: Original Sin 2 BattleTech Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
Better and cheaper than Diablo 3 still. Seems like good fun, can't wait for final release or open beta.

I get what people say about the blandness. But somehow, in this era of weeaboo and Michael Bay, if find it oddly refreshing.

A Beautifully Desolate Campaign
It also mostly comes from not giving the game enough time. The thing about both the passive skilltree and the skill gems themselves is that they appear to be bland since you don't have much choice when you start a fresh character. It's when you hit the mid thirties that you really are forced to actively think about how to play your character. When you reach a higher level mobs will actually get even harder since they gain additional abilities by upgrading their autoattack, the spells they use and enabling them to spam curses into your face. Just yesterday I couldn't get past these two fucking necromancer uniques so I had to tp back to town, take my corpse explosion gem and destroy all corpses before I could finally kill them. Gave me a sense of accomplishment that even Diablo on Inferno couldn't come close to. All of this forces you to think about how to play your character, which in return makes you choose both your gems and the passives you take. Also the chat improves alot by getting into the higher difficulty levels.

Bland? At level 1 I used to shoot a fireball. Yesterday I used to shoot 3 fireballs at the same time with an incrased explosion radius, a higher chance to ignite my enemies and every enemy I killed with this skill had an increased chance to drop magic items. Today I placed a totem that did all that for me while I watched the newest episode of Breaking Bad. And after that I changed two gems, so I had to shoot the fireballs myself again while the totem casts corpse explosion on everything I kill. And now I think about rerolling another character class, because even though the board is the same, the placement of certain passives would enable me to place two instead of one totems without having to spend another 20 skillpoints I simply don't have, and I really enjoyed that playstyle. I don't know about you, but that really doesn't sound bland to me, does it?

Don't agree that the areas are bland. Maybe its because most games in the last 10 years are either cartoony or boring high fantasy shit but I really like most of the areas. Especially Act I is nice with the beaches, dark caves and the prison. Outdoor areas in Act II are a little less interesting allthough I do like the dungeons, especially the church!

More story would be nice though. It starts out pretty interesting with you just trying to survive instead of being the Chosen One. But the story just gets less interesting in Act II, I have no idea why my character cares about anything he needs to do in Act II.
