Pillars of Eternity Beta Discussion [GAME RELEASED, GO TO NEW THREAD]

Ill bet a hundred dollars you cannot explain that cretinous sentence at all, except idiotically repeating it about fifty times and parroting "because i say so".false relativism, false dichotomy, popular vote fallacy, etc, etc, that it is.
Well it goes like this: Not being able to rest in the wild or whenever you fucking want to is a dumbass feature that would be totally artificial.
This means you accepted the bet.

news flash - thats an empty declaratory statementnot supported by anything at all, or in other words "because i say so".
You will have to explain why resting whenever you want, in any place you want, as many times as you want would not be a casual dumbass feature, since it was obviously added for you casual cretins, despite the promises and original design of the game.
So you can have it easy.

And try something better then "because i say so" in the next answer.

I know you're just trolling but for entertainment value, you do know that both your and my own statements are "because I say so" right?
I mean, you could explain, for your reasoning that you shouldn't be able to rest/camp in dungeons/wild areas as it's too dangerous and whatnot (I'm sure you got plenty of reasons). Meanwhile I could argue that anyone can rest anywhere realistically and since there is no ambush/random encounter system, it fits within the context of the game. This could go on for days really.
The only difference is that my way allows anyone to play this single player cRPG the way they want from ultra casual, to mega hardcore, yours forbids everyone else but you from playing them, be it casual or hardcore, simply because you don't agree on the same hardcore logic or "the way it's meant to be played". Josh already fucked up with this mindset by putting in totally artificial "supplies" with arbitrary limits, don't think we need more of that shit.

Just play the game the way you want, let others do the same. And that's coming from someone who loves hardcore and will play the game on PotD with pretty limiting self rules.

As a final note, you cannot rest "as many times as you want", you need supplies, which are limited in carrying capacity AND availability. And unlike what you stated, if you go from the IE inspiration, it's actually limiting the resting mechanic more than IE games, by using that moronic supplies system.

I was doing that with Wasteland 2 ,eventually I got totally lost as I had no idea what I was meant to be doing. I did try , I really did try. Steam tells me I spent 24 hours of my life playing it ,can’t say I enjoyed it much.

I’ll buy this game on release

Absolutely 100% totally not a troll

By the way Anthony Davis I didn't watch much of your stream because I want to know as little about the game as possible, but you looked and sounded like an absolute bro so don't worry about it.

This reminds me, I saw that Obsidian put out a Facebook update earlier about the GameBanshee backer reward inn. Do you know anything about the Codex backer reward? Weren't we going to get an inn of our own? I'll call badler in for this one too, if we could have a Codex news feature about it it might increase interest from the front pagers who don't slavishly read the forums.

If you guys did filled out your backer information/design work, it should be in the game. Yeah for sure though, badler would be able to give you concrete details.

What makes you think he didn't approve it? They wanted to quell the whole combat XP kerfuffle and added in bestiary, trap and lock XP.
And "you spotted a house" XP. Which is fucking ridiculous, considering it makes even less fucking sense.

Copying my post from elsewhere.

Pillars of Eternity is currently the 4th best selling game on STEAM.
Best selling game on GOG.
Best selling game at GMG.

Fuck yeah!

Lol, let me give you an example of the reception by new non-IE-vet players - my girlfriend wants to look at Anthony's streams because she's hyped and curious. Reaches the moment where (real spoiler)
Anthony decides to camp in the dungeon and Calisca leaves
and then was so shocked she changed her mind and said she won't watch any more and wait for the game. :D

afair the codex got a group of adventurers. there was a thread about it with some ideas, but i didn't follow it for too long. dunno what happened to that, and if a backer design sheet was eventually sent in. would be a real shame if not.

no, no, no, nooouuu... no trolling here sunshine. You know shit. You telepathy is just your ego lying to the rest of your brain. And cut the strawmans out while you still can.
I dont have to prove shit to you because it was not me making empty declarations.

No you cannot "argue" that anyone can rest anywhere - especially realistically or especially because there is no ambush/random encounters. That just makes it all even stupider.

The only difference is that my way allows anyone to play this single player cRPG the way they want from ultra casual, to mega hardcore, yours forbids everyone else but you from playing them,
another empty declaratory statement not supported or explained by anything at all.

simply because you don't agree on the same hardcore logic
How the fuck do you know i dont agree...on the same(how is it the same?) - and how is any of it a "hardcore logic"?
or "the way it's meant to be played".
Wut?

Josh already fucked up with this mindset
No he didnt, and you are not Josh.

by putting in totally artificial "supplies" with arbitrary limits, don't think we need more of that shit.
why?

Just because you say so?

Just play the game the way you want, let others do the same.
But i cant you stupid shit. Because the original design was changed to make it easier for casuals like you. And now you dont want to let me play the game as i want, but you require me to "let others play it as they want". How does that work?

You require me to willfully disregard mechanics of the game in order to play it? How does that make any fucking sense? And where does it end?
whats the limit?

As a final note, you cannot rest "as many times as you want", you need supplies, which are limited in carrying capacity AND availability.
Minor difference that in reality of the game never becomes a problem and effectively you can rest anywhere anytime.

And unlike what you stated,
What have i stated?

if you go from the IE inspiration, it's actually limiting the resting mechanic more than IE games, by using that moronic supplies system.
Which effectively poses no limit at all. Since on normal you definitely wont even need to rest more times then supplies allow. And the same goes for higher difficulties - it devalues the whole helth/stamina system - makes the game ridiculously easy - gives the player extreme unfair advantage over any enemies in the game - its not connected to the setting and lore in any way and therefore breaks both those and fourth walls constantly - and fucks up any healing mechanics completely.

Your turn.

Watched bits of Anthony's stream (on and off to avoid some spoilers) at work, chuckled fairly loud at a beer chugging moment. Now I want to play a drunkard character.

Yes, there's a Codex inn and adventuring party. Yes, the staff know what's in it. No, we're not going to spoil it.

So, on hard, you can sleep two times and you can find more supplies and sleep more times? It wasn't the point of the per encounter spells thing and the division of health and the stamina thing to allow some harsher limitations on rest? To me, the healing and spell limitations mechanics are clashing with the sleeping supplies mechanics. I mean, you can spam per encounter spells and you can spam per rest spells too? I'm highly skeptical someone balanced and calculated the exact amount of rest supplies for every single dungeon to stop rest spamming.

You can't have more than 4 camping supplies (or was it six?) so your rest-spamming days will be over pretty quickly.

People who rest-spammed like a religion before will just trek back and forth to the inn and do it anyway, at least for bosses and the like. IF there was some interesting mechanic somewhere that made trips back and forth a "thing" (ambushes, time matters, etc) then why not, but there isn't so all it'll bring is boring fast speed running around...
People who didn't are now stuck with totally arbitrary limitations there just to stop something they never did anyway.
People with no clue wtf is going on still won't have a clue.

Really not sure who "wins" here...

As a note, it's 6 for easy, 4 normal and 2 for hard and PotD.

What's the general consensus on difficulty for a first playthrough? Normal = actually Easy mode, or is it balanced for people who are familiar with the IE games?
