(my faith in humanity is low right now)

I have read (on some tvtropes page) the ending requires the player or an single NPC to go and die in a radioactive chamber, if the player wants to try the logical choice and ask a ghoul party memeber to do it, he refuses from some stupid reason. I also read that the player dies, even if they have medicated themselves to be immune to radiation.

An intelligent super mutant. Who earlier in the game goes into a radioactive chamber for the PC because he is immune. But not a Ghoul, that would be stupid.

Yep, Super-Mutant decides to stand against reasonable thinking.

As for PC, he/she can be full Power-Armored, can have increased radiation resistance [by chems and with some perk that increases it] but it doesn't matter - if PC doesn't want to get 'coward-ending', must go and die as planned.
Funny thing is that if PC send there this BoS girl Lyons in Power Armor she will say: "So much for chivalry'' and march inside chamber without even wearing her helmet... "So much for reasonable solutions".

But it's possible that PC's will death turn out to be only temporary since there is going to be DLC allowing player to keep playing after the ending of the game.

I didn't even see an option for sending Fawkes(Supermutant) in to the chamber when I tried talking to him about it. I thought it was a fairly stunning omission considering he goes in to another radiated area for the player earlier in the game.

You also cant send a robot, which would be an even more logical choice to make.

It's obviously SUPER radiation, which goes right through immunities and power armor. Durr.

Where do you get a robot follower?

There is a robot merchant travelling the wasteland (huh..), usually found near some RobCo facility, can't remember which though.

The amazing thing is that with two or three lines of dialogue, at least they could have halfway justified this terrible design decision--the radiation is too intense to be shielded (even though there's just a glass window separating the room from the outside) or whatever. It wouldn't have been great, but it would've been something.

What's remarkable is that in a game where radiation and radiation resistance play such a major role, no one seems to have even considered how stupid their approach is. (Then again, let's not forget the equally thrilling part of NWN2 OC where the lizard men are running back and forth in front of you setting Shandra's farm on fire while you stand there doing nothing.)

Better yet - they could've just specified the exact kind of radiation. Maybe it wasnt the "usual" gamma-radiation in that room, but rontgen (thats x-rays for you USians), or microwave radiation - that would've actually made much more sence, seeing how intense microwaves fry both organics and electronics.

It's kind of a dead end for Bethesda releasing any expansion packs that take place after the story is over. Well, unless they design it from the point of view is that the player is EVIL or something.

I agree that the option of sending a follower in, thus a happier ending, is sorely missing. The first thing I thought of given the circumstance is that the option of drawing straws or flipping a coin is also missing.
