This game commits one major sin of first-person shooter/RPG design: There are no meaty, humanoid grunts to shoot at. This could potentially cost the game many sales, because shooting at amorphous, teleporting alien squids isn't very satisfying.

Even Shock2 had mutants in it, the basic grunt. Prey needs a basic grunt too to avoid financial disaster.

Hmm that's bad. Would probably make the game spoopier to have posessed people skulking around, or if they went for a bit of The Thing angle.

I like how this game looks. Yet, I feel it's going to fail (evne if it is good) because the way it has been presented seems bland/boring.

Sometimes you get it.

Dishonored 2 tanked? How come? Wasn't it more of the same popamolified Immersive Sim design as the first that the mainstream and even some of the old school find satisfactory? It had Bethesda/Zenimax-backed marketing, surely it produced results in the green?

They sold 40% less than the first game (until now).

This means that in the end they will probably sell something between 2 and 3 million copies and another crisis will be averted. They will be just profitable instead of hugely profitable.

In other words, don't get your hopes high. Arkane future is pretty much safe at this point. For them to go tits up they need to release at least one huge stinker.

But as much as I hate Bethesda this will not going to happen.

A lot of triple A titles sold poorly this year, including Mankind Divided. Publishers are trying to make a poker face about it, while making discounts like 33% on Dishonored 2 on Steam a couple of days ago (literally within a month after the release).

I wish I knew what's going on (maybe the shit quality of those titles has something to do with it), but their "solution" to the problem will only make the situation worse. I mean, what's point of buying something on release, when you can get it with 75% off after 3-6 months?

All month long, Game Informer will be updating its hub of exclusive features covering Prey from Arkane Studios (the creators of Dishonored) to coincide with our new cover story on the game. In this video interview, lead designer Ricardo Bare explains what makes the gameplay in Prey different than what you've played before but also how it loosely compares to games like Metroid and Arx Fatalis.

Watch the interview below to learn how much freedom players will have in the space station and the extent that the game will have "survival" elements.
