Quake 2 Remastered has a cool directional sound effect in one of the music tracks

Somewhere in the beginning of that track, before the first minute mark, is a click or a pop sound that seems to always come from behind you and slightly to the right if you're using actual speakers. I don't know if the original unremastered soundtrack is different so I didn't link that. This effect may not actually be present in the isolated track but it's definitely there in the remastered game. This is probably accidental because it makes no sense for the music tracks to contain any phase trickery.

Anyone else notice this?

The click happens at 0:33. Even when listened at with a phone it sounds like it's coming from far behind on the right side of the listener.

panning is common in music production

I've never heard anything as convincing as this, not even on albums mixed with QSound.
