Question for our Polish friends

1) They are talking about how AoD apparently promises nonlinearity and different choices

2) Some guy is saying that despite being amateur-produced and being an indie game, aod promises to be a very good cRPG.

3) Some guy pipes up after the first guy says 1) and says that morrowind was also non-linear and had choices. (lol?) Then he agrees with the first guy that aod may indeed be interesting

4) Some guy says that people may use Oblivion as a benchmark when it comes to evaluating cRPG's, which is bad.

There may be more, but I haven't touched polish in years.

What the fuck are these people talking about and what's AoD got to do with Oblivion-vs-Morrowind? I'm getting a trackload of hits from this page, so, naturally, I'm curious.
Hi :P
(I'm an admin of the Oblivion Library forums)
One of our fellows (Sunriders) mentioned AoD as non-commercial project and alternative idea of making RPGs opposed to the 'big' titles alike Obl. He also stated it would be "the most RPG-ish od cRPGs ever done" ;] "Ideas of AoD makers indicate that it is possible to make an plot and non-linearity-centered cRPG"
As a conclusion he siad that the only hope of cRPG are indie ("fan") projects and that started a discussion which was alike "what the fuck is AoD?" :P And the rest is about indie & older RPG games at all. And someone shared links to your project. That's all.
So generally speaking on our forums you're seen as the RPG indie avant-garde and the last hope of humanity.
Sweet, isn't it? ;)
Cheers,
UCRC

I just skimmed through it, but it looks like some guys who have enough of the decline of RPGs praise AoD. They sound somewhat hyped. Just two lines I couldn't ignore: "It's the only game I'm anticipating" and "it will be the most RPGish RPG ever". Be happy, just some free advertisement.

EDIT:
Sheeeit, guy was faster than me...

We'll introduce the main quest (3 branches) in an upcoming interview which most likely will be posted this week. The dialogue screens will illustrate my thoughts on plot and non-linearity.

So generally speaking on our forums you're seen as the RPG indie avant-garde and the last hope of humanity.

Hehe, I really liked that forum initially but I had to stop posting there due to work on my thesis. Now that I have my degree and I'm buying new hardware next week, I'll finally be able to check what this Oblivion fuss was all about and maybe get back to elder-scrolls.pl, especially since they seem to have some interesting discussions there.

What was your thesis about?
About branching space-times and some variants of formal approach to the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen phenomenon. The title is "On Minkowskian Branching Structures". I'll be trying to put the paper in the PhilSci archive in a few days and publish it later this year.

Thanks for asking :D

I'm always amazed at how far one's willing to go trying to get laid.

Bored girl in a bar: So, what kinda work do you do?
Elwro: *casually* I fuck with space-time continuum, following the work of Einstein, Rosen, and professor Brown.
No longer bored, suddenly very horny girl: *in a purring voice* If there is anything - anything at all - that I can do for you...

Cool stuff, Elwro. Congrats!

They sound somewhat hyped.

We all were hoping that Oblivion would be a very good cRPG, but (if not counting dozens of kiddos raised on games where dragons are bad [or epic] and you can always have a shag with a princess) since it turned out to be a crap, we started looking after something that would cover the brain-wounds it made to us. And as for the hype thing - well... at first Oblivion Library was a nice base of info about the game, yet after the bad things happened - we just started talking about crap. ;]

Well, up to now it seems to work better then "Ya know, I'm an expert on Baroque music".
Better try just "Ya know, I'm an expert" ;) In most cases it works out. Really ;]
(And still... remember to pay us a visit sometimes :) In a meantime site grows bigger and bigger)

And dumber and dumber, at the same time. Iit's getting harder and harder to provoke a meaningful conversation about anything interesting - usually it's "you don't know shit, OBLIVIAN is teh best game/cRPG evar!!".

And it's all your fault, you poor poor admin

Aye, considering that only about 20% of 'the staff' actually played the thing.

And just to stay 'on-topic' a bit - great work on AoD so far, VD. It's nice to see sth (at least) ambitious at last.

Well... This was unexpected. AoD is becoming a popular game.
Sadly, popularity can only lead to mainstreaming. I wonder what AoD IV: Oblivion will be like.

I think its becoming trendy to claim that the only game you're waiting for is an indie game that nobody's ever heard of, har har.

Sadly, popularity can only lead to mainstreaming. I wonder what AoD IV: Oblivion will be like.

You know, since Patrick Stewart is already taken, I guess he'd go for a soil-eroded version of Elton John with a porn star or two to make up for the fact that Elton John's nipples aren't bump-mapped...

Ok, now that's sick. I'm going to put myself in an asylum right now.
