That was supposed to have been a real-time engine render--we'll see how the game looks on most people's computers though.

That screen specifically looks prerendered with an in-game asset. The engine itself doesn't have the self-soft-shadowing capability like you see in that image. Simply compare that to shots you know ARE in-game.

Personally if I were them, I would NOT be showing that model as my 'spokesperson' for the game...yikes.

Since the fire and textures are the same, it's probably not ingame, just a render with two different models. I'd guess the second one you posted is the high quality one used for the opening sequence (or perhaps just the trailer and promotional shots) and the lower quality one is for in-game, though not in-game in that pic. Design in the armor+shield is different, but it looks alike enough to assume it's the same character, just different quality models/skins.
