New Launch Date: Tuesday, November 10th, 2020
Raiders! will be launching on Tuesday, November 10th, 2020

Just posting a quick announcement that the launch date will be moved to November 10th, 2020.

Few motivations for this include this week being an absolute bloodbath of big games being launched, as well as one particular 125,000 pound (follower) behemoth titled The Outer Worlds that sidled into the same October 23rd launch date as Raiders a few weeks after I had selected it.

Another issue is the upcoming Halloween sale and how it could negatively affect launch week visibility.

And third and most importantly, this gives me just a bit more time to test and polish things before launch, in particular the combat layer.

Even though the term has evolved from its original Roman etymology, I do see your point. I'll change the text to read "reduce" instead.
Game looks like it has teeth, good work! I'll definitely be trying it.

You use a lot of colorful language for the in-game text, don't neuter "decimate" because of some forum pedagogy. Maybe "slaughter", "massacre" or "indiscriminately kill"?

Ah, good ol' Myron from Fallout 2. Looking at my Steam account just now, I see that I've put a 166 hours into that game. Likely give it another playthrough once I've released Raiders.

No worries, I don't plan on watering anything down with the game. I thought about keeping the language clean in the early days, but quickly decided against that.

It's okay. Combat and the game both feel fun at first, then just sort of plateau and don't seem to really go anywhere. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Cannot seem to build up the resources to do stuff, so just roll around with 8 max level guys raiding and wrecking shit, which makes the game push into its next phase, which seems like a bad thing since my garrison guys suck so bad and they cannot defend anything. The little weak stuff cannot just be auto smashed, and the fear mechanic feels neat but I don't feel like I am getting enough of it to actually be doing both the laws and extortion. May try a different approach and see what happens. It is fun though, and I'm going to play it more.

Edit: Forgot to say, I do really like that your weapon levels up with you. It is a neat mechanic, that allows for a variety of equipped stuff instead of everyone having X cause it is the best. Also after playing more, feel like I absolutely screwed up the development of my base initially which is why I'm not getting into fancy stuff, but I am slowly improving now.

Can you properly rape and pillage? Seeing that somehow you can have female raiders, they might avoid doing the first one in-game. Unless said fem-raiders are ugly, freakishly strong, or the favorites of another raider.

All you do is pillage. There is no rape. But you can slaughter people for food.
Funnily enough, checking the video there are female raiders, and they're apparently the default choice, but they're invariably ugly and freakish-looking, so it is somewhat fitting. SJWs won't approve.

Playing this right now. It's pretty fun - 15 hours in.

Was first put off by JRPG style combat with no movement, but it was on sale and the trailer got me.
It actially triggers the same autism as battle brothers. Add base management to the mix and it is a pretty addictive formula.
Setting and writing are fun. Combat has some depth to it. "Fun is allowed" - there are some unbalanced strategies and items, skills.

The cool thing so far is that you have to manage the amount of raiding you do. Because the "crime meter" of the region goes up (and cannot be lowered) and the cities start improving defences and send "militia men" after you. Which also attack the locations you've captured. And you can't really "do nothing" - you must raid for progression and to keep morale high.

I guess it all will fall apart, when i capture all locations and become self-sufficient. But then again, there is also some end game event coming up after certain amount of days.

For a little indie game, i'd say it's pretty fun. Lots of systems too: crafting, weapon modding, weapons progress in level with kills, special skills for weapons (like battle brothers).

Would recommend for people who like combat/management games and post apocalyptic setting.

Finished this, conquered the wasteland and became the official "governor".
My bois even made me a golden crown and a cup from the skull of the former governor - a satisfying end.

Good:
- you can spin a "wheel of fortune" and adopt or decline a random law (trait and a flaw), 29 in total
- weapons level up and can be modded and upgraded
- special encounters/locations can be found while exploring the map
- "crime meter" goes up when you raid or pillage - locations fortify and start spawning regulator parties to hunt you down
- there is a rival (or fellow?) raiders hideout and party whos activity also increases the crime meter, so you have to take them down sooner or later
- some buildings require "specialists" to build, like gunsmith, etc; these are travelling around and must be found and captured; other people can be captured for minor bonuses (+ resources per day)
- art is fitting, lots of faces and equipment shows on raiders. Equipment is also fun: hockey sticks, deep sea helmets, stop signs as shields, suicide vests
- you can promote raiders and even have up to 3 spouses, which gives you bonuses

Poor:
- combat is obviously a bit JRPGish and a bit samey/easy
- combat is super deadly, but only if you don't use the tank mechanic. With a tank you can force most of AI to attack only 1 dude (who is obviously built for it)
- sickness and injuries don't have much impact
- you can sacrifice stuff and even your raiders for combat bonuses, but it was never needed
- crafting takes to long to setup and requires too much game time to gather resources. It is easier to just buy everything, although crafted stuff is superior

In the end multiple tough parties invade and attack your locations, but I could defeat all of them one by one with my main party. They destroyed/captured a couple of my locations though.

It is an okay game. Poor man's battle brothers. But the setting is cool and writing does not hold back. Would play a sequel with more depth.

Thanks for the posts, it's fun hearing people's thoughts on playing the game.
I just did a playthrough a few weeks ago after not touching the thing since it launched. I had fun with it, actually spent ten hours on my new campaign, great to reminisce. Had higher hopes for the game, but still proud of it.
And indeed, I did shit the bed with the combat system insofar as not having a grid system and proper animations. Would change some of that in hindsight.

No worries bro, most of us are day dreaming of making a game, you actually did it. As a solo dev, some parts must be simplified or cut.
I had fun playing it and am looking forward to your next game, Sector Unknown.
