The English official version of was censored. I think because the publisher was also Japanese.

Shogun and Sengoku -
This came up in the Shogun thread. For those that have or are watching Shogun but aren't as versed in the history of the Sengoku era:
Toranaga is Iyeasu Tokugawa - Tokugawa's nickname was "Old Raccoon"
Yabu is Honda Masanobu, who is a distant relative of Honda Tadakatsu. He's the weird Raccoon dog Tactician commander you fight in one of the set Tenshi Sect battles.
Mariko is Gracia, and her father is Akechi Mitsuhide.
Therefore, Kuroda, the lord that Akechi assassinates, is Nobunaga. Nobunaga meets his end by Akechi at Honnoji.
So Okiba no Kata is Nobunaga's daughter - although Okiba is (probably) not supposed to be Kouhime - in history Okiba is Kouhime's (Oichi's) daughter.
The Taiko is Toyotomi Hideyoshi, which is Tokichirou the Monkey.
Senhime is the daughter of Iyeasu's 3rd son and in history she marries Hideyori, the boy Prince in Shogun. However, with her death-wish and naginata fighting, she is pretty close to Mariko ^ ^
Blackthorne is kind of like Rance then, I guess?
As for other characters, many of them predate Nobunaga in the Sengoku period. Mori Motonari and Hojo Souun are very early in Sengoku, while Kenshin and Takeda Shingen are a little after them.
Geographically, Kanto and Edo are in the Hojo regions (Edo, Saitama and Kazusa 2000), which is where present day Tokyo is located (Tokyo is Edo). Osaka is in Naniwa province (between Yamato and Himeji).
