"You'll really hear the budget!"
That's the best thing I've seen all week. Thank you.

About the picture, it's very well done. I see nothing wrong with it as a "mood piece".

...I see SpeedTree!...

Since "towns" in the originals was located either in destroyed buildings or shacks, they could implement a tech called SpeedShack. This program will build loads of shacks and destroyed buildings when you walk through the residential areas (note: forests).

Fuck, they can even go to South Africa to take a peak at how to properly "shack up" a shack in game so it looks more realistic.

For fucks sakes. I hate Betehsda as much as anybody; but the whining over this is beyond retarded. It's plain dumb as well as patehtic to expect everything in FO3 to look like it would in the earlier FOs.

"Why the fuck do they hire such "professionals" [that is, actors which have no real PC game voice acting experience but are goign to be hype for the game because of their fame] for such ridiculous amounts of money if they could afford dozens of good voiceactors for the same amount of money and at least pull off some good voice acting. The fucking bad voiceacting was one of the things that killed the athmosphere of Shivering Isles for me, everyone sounded just soooo fucking boring."

Oh, please. I'd rtaher take professional actors like Liam Neeson. He's pretty good, and 'experience in video gaming voice overs' is simply not needed. Heck, i wouldn't be surprised if he has experience in voice overs from animated filsm and whatnot. On top of that, he's a plain old fashion good actor. As long as he's motivated to do his best; I'm sure he'll be fine.

If anything, JE's celebrity voice over is evidence that it can be successful.

Anyways, the pic looks fine. It's funny that people are whininga bout 'intact buildings'. Big fuckin' deal. there were intact buildings in the earlier Fallouts to.

To sum up any Codex response to FO3: "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!"

To sum up any Codex response to FO3's eventual release: *pulls out wallet, hands over money, gets FO3*

IIRC The Glow was hit directly by a nuke, and was still mostly intact, which suggests to me the Fallout nukes are not Tsar Bombas. I know you guys are pissed but you should feel around for a decent handhold before going into attack mode.

The Glow was hit by several nukes since it was a key R&D facility (it was the West Tek Research Facility, it developed FEV and the Power Armor) and everything above ground was leveled, the nukes managed to make a hole to its underground facilities that likely were protected against nuclear weapons.

Oh! Oh! I know. What if we have to team up with our enemies from previous games to fight a new unknown evil? I love it when sequals take that horrible fucking route.

Now imagine that ramped up by a factor of anywhere between 5 and 100 times the damage.

Little Boy = 20 Kilotons
50's Bombs = 100 Kilotons to 10 Megatons

At ground zero, 1 megaton creates a crater about a third of a mile across and flattens everything within a mile. So no, I can't imagine there being much left of Washinton DC (or anywhere) after a 10 megaton strike.

But they would probably use air burst 10-20 megaton bombs.

With those there would still be a lot of damage but mostly it would just kill people through radiation and heat.

They could also use a neutron bomb....

You fucking noob. Teh President's Aura DEFLECTED the incoming ruskiess' bombs and made them do only a little bit of damage. Can't you see all the fucking craters on the outskirts.

Maybe Ground Zero for Washington would be New York?? As I recall, several nuclear armored bombs would blow destroy everything in a 5 mile (or so) radius from Ground Zero, and the blast would get windows to blow out in an 8-12 mile radius. While everything else pretty much would be left standing, and the survivors were to get radition sickmess. :( sad - but true. Or it could be that Bethesda decided that both sides did indeed make use use of neutron bombs, which feature is that they leave buildings standing, but kill all the people :( Sad - but true :(

Apparently, it is not the wasteland of the desert hisd time, but the remains of the urban jungle in which Fallout 3 will take place this time. As for the picture itself, yes, it does look a little too crispy for Fallout, at least if you compare it to FO1+F02's pictures and visuals, but I don't think you should. Bethesda's FO 3 game will be whole new ball game, and as such, it will be very different in style, but hopefully, they won't differ in content from FO1+FO2. But the picture does look a lot more like Dresden after the allied bombings in 1944 or 1945 than a city would do after a nuclear attack on it. On that much, I do agree.

EDIT:
As for Liam Neeson, here's what IMDB has on him:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000553/

Second EDIT:
I don't think that the Russians (or the enemies of the US) would go after Washington DC. They would most like hit the economic structure of the land, going after big cities like N.Y, L.A, or S.F. and possibly also Area 52 and definitely military bases like West Point and Quantico and such things. Think about what would happen to the economy in the US if the stock exchange in N.Y. suddenly didn't work due to a nuclear attack.

Third EDIT:
Fallout 3 will probably take place about 150-160 year after Fallout 1. And yes, I realize that you maybe won't see FO 3 as Fallout game (as I probably am inclined to do) since you want your Fallout games to be a specific way. However, I do realire that Fallot 3 will of course be inspired by Fallout1+2 as well as adding new stuff, both in style as well as in content, to the Fallout universe (but hopefully, not that much content). And yes, I find the picture very nice, too.

I like the picture. It's like straight from Hellgate: Washington.

(I really like it; I couldn't care less if it's not realistic enough.)

It's just kinda meh. It's not overly exciting, doesn't show anything for or against Fallout, and I'm not really a fan of the piece. It strikes me as a messy, amateurish photoshop, and since the original shot doesn't look as though it's intended to be striking, it's non-dramatic, and devoid of any interesting symbolism.

If anyone is going to be critical of anything, how about the fact that a teaser piece, intended to be used as a marketing gimmick is devoid of any controversy or spark to drive hype from its target audience?

We know it's set in post-apocalyptic America. We were al but certain it was going to be on the East Coast. What's left? It's not Fallout-y enough? Fuck that, it's not anything.

The picture isn't bad. It's not good either. It's just lukewarm and boring as fuck all.

However, the complaints about it are pretty fucking stupid. Seriously, wait until we see some major, hardcore, balls to the walls rape before getting into arms. Don't worry. It'll happen soon enough.

I think they are trying to pull on the harpstrings of patriotism, Section8. Which is another reason it won't go over well with fallout fans....

I agree, it's actualy the best artwork Bethesda has ever manage to make, unfortunately games never end up being as pretty or cool has they do in the drawings.

Oh and I imagine the image would have been alot more boring if it didn't have a big torn up simbolic building in the middle and instead just falt debry or a crater.

Perhaps the assumption is that Washington was simply near-missed. There used to be speculation that CEPs for an over-the-Pole launch were nothing like as good as projected.

I remember a novel (WarDay?) where we had a limited nuclear exchange with the Soviets. Washington was blown straight to hell, but the Soviets missed NYC outright, hitting the Long Island suburbs instead. NYC was still rendered uninhabitable because of infrastructure collapse.

Well, the MX missiles were the most accurate large payload ones. And they were fairly innacurate. Now the older models with the heavy payloads are pretty damn old. Who knows how well they would hold up?

The Russian ones...well they are not as good about quality control, most likely 50% would explode on takeoff (In China, they explode far more than 50% of the time - but in Soviet Union this was by design as it's cheaper to produce quantity than quality), and it's estimated that more than half of the ICBMs produced were decoys - there was no real warheads in them in the first place.

NYC is much more 'east coast' to me than DC. Still, its all fucking futile. Bethesda can hype their shit to heaven, its still shit. Mark my words. FO3 will be an realtime-FP-linear abomination.

Bryce, I hope you are not excusing that picture ...

Washington DC is the central command of the US Federal Administration, its a KEY TARGET ... I doubt there would be "near misses" since they will use Area Saturation Tactics.
