Oh I'm sorry, I've forgotten
It's okay, we all make mistakes.
Gothic is not a game about riding on a horse and killing things
That's right, in fact, they don't even have horses. Try playing it like Oblivion and fail like Mareus.
only because it lack horses
glad you got your memory back
That's pretty fail. And of the few that are there you can't even "bag them all"
Gay!
Why do you lie?
I agree, they should have made it about the Sword Coast, or Star Wars. It would have blown my mind, it's just...so far out of the box man!Virgin soil ftw!!
Also, they don't have elves. Gay!
True, but they're perfectly serviceable. There really isn't enough Avellone to go around. Anyway, what do you think about what we've heard about the AP dialogue system; is it closer to PST or Mass Effect?
Yeah, he's boring, I don't think they watched enough 24 episodes because they got the Jack Bauer totally wrong. Also, you can't change his face between missions like in the AP bathroom. Lame!
But you can smoke weed to give you bullet-time! Is it because they don't have unlimited ammo?
True, a lot of the quest are boring, but that's how most RPGs are these days. Anyway, I remember some pretty good ones to get in the city in G2, and the faction system introduced in Gothic 3 (one of the few things they did right in that game) at least made the circumstances around the fedEx quests interesting. One of the reasons I disliked Gothic 3 when I played it was that the Nameless Hero ended up an asshole, killing all his friend friends from the earlier games, for survival and orc-gold. In hindsight that is actually a strength; a game should have the freedom to make your character a total douche. The same thing happened to me in MotB, my character turned out a total asshat. C&C is sort of a big deal round these here parts isn't it? It's limited, but still a lot better than what Oblivion offered. I’m actually neutral about fedEx quests, I generally find them better than the ”kill x” quests that saturate RPGs, hell, almost all kinds of games. Games are still a very juvenile medium; slap a babe in chain mail bikini and/or some big guns on a box and it will sell like hot-cakes, it’s an embarrassment really. That’s why I love adventure games; they don’t give you that easy way out.
almost no skills not connected to combat
Also true. But you have thievery skills, so it's not as fail as The Witcher. There's hunting and crafting skills too. Nothing to make you like James Bond though..
Oh it's so different from Oblivion
Huh? If you agree with me then why are we arguing? That makes no sense
to make their newest project even more differ Piranha Bytes decided to put "more emphasis on catacombs, sewers etc
They've already said in another interview that they were going to "put more emphasis on catacombs, sewers etc" by working harder at making them interesting, not by adding a shitton of them like you seem to believe, but have fun making shit up. I hope they work extra hard, then it might turn out as fun as the Orc caves in NWN2!!! How do you like those warehouse shots from AP btw? They immerse me!
(You should read that interview, there's some absolutely retarded stuff about different hairstyles and malleable fabrics (wtf)in it that should give you some more to bitch about.)
Seriously though, the Gothic games are action/adventure/RPG-games. Why where you expecting Arcanum 2? The series has always been about adventuring in a dangerous world, marvelling at how well-crafted it is, taking in the atmosphere, and the feeling of accomplishment as you finally have the skills to go somewhere that was too perilous earlier. They actually accomplish the mythical and much-hyped "immersion" that devs, or at least PR guys seek these days. It's all about escapism, with exploration at the core, and they're great at what they're trying to do. Risen is a new franchise, but I think they should stick to what they're good at, they tried too much in Gothic 3, and they failed. But, unlike Bethesda, Piranha didn't beat their chest shouting "best gaem ever", but decided to learn from it, and I truly believe that they're not going to make the same mistakes in Risen (prolly cause im retarded lol). I guess AP and the Alien RPG will show us if a RPG dev should start making action games or not… I'd rather they did another MoTB, but they might turn out good. Despite my rant I have high hopes
I'm sorry if people doing what they're good at isn't innovative enough for you, maybe you should go play Diablo 3 in first person mode, or experience how Fallout 3 is an improvement on the series because it is totally different. That's not to say that I'm completely happy about the info so far; a volcanic island should have a lot of power that could be harnessed by, say, a steampunk society, wich would have been a lot more interesting, but It’s still looking quite interesting so far. I have high hopes for the sentient race, and with the way Pirahna managed to mix generic fantasy up quite a bit by adding different kinds of amphibians, I’m looking forward to exploring the flora and fauna of the Island.
The Gothics are so-so RPGs, but great games, just like The Witcher. Now I could understand your hate if you were a ”true RPG” fan like Roqua, but you’re all moist in the pants over a Mass Effect clone TPS with unlimited ammo, dialogue-wheel, and glowing quadrogoggles, so that’s obviously not the case. I don’t see how any person with any kind of gaming experience could make such an unfair comparison between Oblivion and the Gothic series, unless they hold some kind of perverted grudge against Pirahna Bytes, or they’re retarded. I have concluded that you are retarded. I f”Risen” should prove to be an Oblivion clone, judged by people who are not retarded like you, I’ll owe you an apology.
As for Gothic 4, this Risen thing that is also Gothic 4, TES V: Fallout, Two Worlds 2 and Dragon Age, you played it? No? Then stfu.
EDIT: Man do I type slow... this was supposed to be a response to your five o' clock post
