This is a game that demonstrates the "why" of turn based combat, and even more damningly, it does it without a party. The haters say that real time systems can be just as tactical as TB in terms of options, which may be true* but they're missing perhaps the most important point. Those real time games almost always have cakewalk combat compared to games like this, Wizardries, ToEE, JA2, X-com, etc. Even in the best RT games, like the IE games, your party members can absorb a few rounds of damage while you take your eyes off of them to manage one of them. There are very few enemies that can K.O. the fuck out of half your party in one turn. Then we have Wizardry and oops your team just got buttslammed in one round by a group of 3 samurai in the front and 4 ninjas in the back. And that's with TB. Now imagine RT when you eventually unpause the game because you're a popamoler and RT has muh immersion and flow and you want to be immersed after giving commands, and while your attention goes to your Cleric because he got whittled down to a sliver of health in 3 seconds, you didn't see that ninjas just insta killed 3 of your mates and now the samurai are about to get up in those ass cheeks. I mean you think this would dawn on more casuals seeing as how NuXcom raped them hard on Normal and they were losing precious squad-mates left and right and crying about it on every damn forum.

Anyway, TB facilitates absolutely lethal group battles and the haters played games that had cupcake combat and figured what do we need this TB shit for. Like the easy peasy JRPGs they played on Playstation, and casually at that, never taking on the tough optional boss battles that would have punked them hard if RT.

*I haven't seen it myself. No RT game I've played compares to the tactical layer of JA2 or Jap games like Disgaea. Maybe Codex knows of some.

^ Word. The combat in this game is so damn enjoyable, also it's very fast unlike other tb games where it takes an eternity for things to unfold. Taking the arena mini-game in Core City and making a pvp online game out of it where you can pvp 1vs1, 2vs2 or hell even 4vs4 that would be fucking awesome, especially with the combat builds porn that is Underrail.

[...] it inspired no "sense of wonder" in me.
That's because you're a walking carcass with no soul in you.
Only if you listen/judge the music and sound design is enough to spark a sense of wonder.

Darth Roxor, get your elitist golden fist and shove it in your mother's cunt.

You know, if this is not good enough for you, you would be better playing Triple-A games with the rest of popamoles. Genuine cRPG players tend to care more about things such as character building, writing, quests, reactivity, etc; you know, the things that really matter in a cRPG. But that is assuming that you really mean the things you said. I suspect you are just conjuring bullshit out of thin air for the sake of bad mouth a game you don't know.

^ I finished AoD, if you think it looks beautiful or it's got beautiful art you are probably blinded by rabid fanboyism or have the aesthetic taste of a chimp, or both.

My god this place is really filled with graphic whores. Ok, graphic whore. You won. the standards for good art is whatever you decided and this an important criticism to make. Really, really important.

Some myths we need to break with a fucking hammer:

  • Underrail is the heir of Fallout

No, it isn’t. See the comments above.

  • Styg is like Mozart, because he made Underrail alone

Not, he isn’t. The Wikipedia shows that he worked at least with seven people to finish the game. He made the engine, kudos for him, but he didn’t made most of the art, etc.

He doesn't hold a candle to Vinney.

You mean, the artists that Styg paid don't hold a candle to Vinney, because he didn't made Underrail's art.

Underrail 2d art is quite beautiful and consistent:

http://www.markwowk3d.com/projects/6260660

It's pretty retarded to try to discredit it because Styg didn't create it himself but paid some artists to do it (you know, the sensible thing any serious developer should do if they care about their games), if VD created that shit art he should have shelled out some money like Styg did because it's inconsistent and pedestrian at best.

We're talking about Vinney here, the same Vinney who made a career from conning people out of their money. The Vinney I know doesn't deal in something as pedestrian as art, he gets someone to do it for him.

Both games look decent to me (for their budget). The women look like dudes though.

If I made a game the grafics would be worse than UR/AoD but I guarantee the women would look better.

I'm not trying to discredit Styg, I’m trying to give credit where credit is due. In this case, trying to give credit to someone who actually did the art that you arbitrarily attributed to Styg just to make “my favorite developer is better than yours” childish contest. Do you even heard yourself? The fact that you keep talking about Styg when you mention the art just proves my point. Your compliments should be redirected to some anonymous individuals that you don’t ever bother to know who it is because you are a simple-minded individual desperate to create an idol. At least I have the common sense of knowing who is responsible for each segment of what in AoD. It was Oscar. So your developers dick contest should involve Oscar and anonymous dudes, not Vince and Styg, you mongrel. Of course, you don’t care about that because you are just interested in sucking developer’s dick and repeating arbitrary nonsense created on forums. And how the hell the art in AoD is inconsistent? Well, it wasn’t. You just decided to conjure this nonsense out of thin air.
