Okay, so it's on Steam for 10 bucks. Is it worth ten bucks? If you just don't like Diablo games don't answer, I want an answer from people who like Diablo games. Saint said something about Sacred Gold being worth playing while the original Sacred was not.

I enjoyed the original Sacred. It's a fun game to turn off your brain to and go slash through hordes of greenskins/undead.

Worth it, IMO. It's somewhere between "typical Diablo clone" and Divine Divinity. Lots of quests, lots of world map to explore, and interesting character classes with potential for diverse builds.

I guess its probably worth 10 bucks. Compared to Diablo 2, there's far fewer skills (and most classes have several skills that are very similar), skills are improved by finding scrolls rather than by using skill points, a much larger (but static) world, and lots of (mostly generic) quests. Enemies spawn endlessly, which I found very annoying. I didn't ever get close to finishing it, but it was fun for a while.

About same here, tried the original and it was shrug'ish. Fun for a few hours but then it just gets way too reptitive and boring. Personally I'd place it about on-par with Titan Quest, although I believe TQ is far more popular.

How is Divine Divinity?

Not Ultima VII, but it will bring back the nostalgia... Considering its many flaws, it's just outstanding

If you can survive the first dungeon which is so awful it'll make you want to uninstall.

It did for me; I threw the game away when the dungeon just wouldn't end. No matter how good the game is potentially; it can't expect me to suffer through this crap.

It also crashed every five minutes.

You don't have to go through the first dungeon, just get out of the village and run for your life :D

The point is that they managed to create a true open world, except the ending, due to the usual corporatist shit! Not even BG2 achieved this, you have to go through the Irenicus dungeon before exploring outside, but not here.

Good, an open world action RPG, I was also thinking of SpellForce 2.

BTW where can I buy DD?

It's shit mixed with shit on top of shit. Imagine Diablo rolling around in a dessicrated goat corpse then taking a shit then puking on it - that's Sacred. You might as well gut out your brains with a buoy knife while listening to Celine Dion's greatest fails.

considering how much you love first person dungeon crawlers which consist of dungeon + dungeon x dungeon ^dungeonx10 i'm really surprised that first dungeon killed it for you

it wasn't even that bad i thought... its one of three very long dungeons in the game but the rest of it wayyyy more than makes up for it.

10 bucks doesn't sound like a bad deal for Sacred Gold, but goddamn did i hate how dead that game world was considering how alive it could have been given how... full it was?

You need to finish the dungeon to "heal" the city dude so that the village doors will open

Regarding Sacred Gold, yeah it's worth $10 . It's possible to grab a physical version in europe on ebay, brand new, for about the same. Just make sure you get a serial

Overall, I enjoyed it.

Pros:
- nice looking Isometric gameworld
- lots of quests
- phat lewtz
- Interesting character builds

Cons:
- endless enemy respawns
- combat system requires clicking every time you want to hit which can get tiresome
both mentally and physically (my finger hurts)

It's definitely a good buy at ten bucks.

you don't have to click per hit, you can just hold down the mouse button if i'm not mistaken, spells and skills on the other hand...

...the endless grinding annoyed me way too much, but i did like the whole "go explore!" aspect, the problem is that there wasn't much to find

It's been a while since I played it, so I might be wrong. The reason it sticks in my mind though, is that the left-click button on my mouse died while playing it.

This is not true. You can leave the village without entering the dungeon.

This was about Divine Divinity...

Saw GOG was having a giant RPG sale. Thought about picking something up and then remembered I have a backlog of tons of RPGs. So I decided to go through my list and remembered Sacred Gold.

I remember my dad buying this when it first came out and just playing the crap out of this game. Never finished it, but am planning on doing it now.

Following this guide for a melee seraphim. Started on silver difficulty and was getting completely destroyed. Was wondering what my problem was. Then I realized the key to this game is to buy/find gear that has tons of slots so the smith upgrades them with attack and defenses. Went from enemies having a 60% chance to hit me to 20%. Also resistances to negate damage.

It's actually impressive that this game managed to find a way to make it so that white and magic items are actually useful. Especially since you level up so fast that you need to change your gear to make sure it matches your level. Makes vendors very valuable since their inventories refresh with new gear often.

Though this is still just the start of the game with me at level 17, so this may change as I get further along.

At least your dad had balls not to use a guide.
Especially on the first playthrough.
Especially in the game where at least half of the fun in making your own build and trying to beat platinum/niobium with it.
