At least your dad had balls not to use a guide.
Especially on the first playthrough.
Especially in the game where at least half of the fun in making your own build and trying to beat platinum/niobium with it.

Well I'm not going to follow the build exactly. I'm going to modify it to be a little more defensive. But looking at the stats I have a good idea of what I want.

Just doing a side quest involving rounding up some cattle and got this dialogue upon completion
WvGzRep.jpg
Even get some dialogue after rescuing a farmer from orcs about how they were probably going to rape his daughter. Truly going for the authentic female experience during medieval times.

Worth it, IMO. It's somewhere between "typical Diablo clone" and Divine Divinity. Lots of quests, lots of world map to explore, and interesting character classes with potential for diverse builds.
I agree. Not exactly a top tier hack-and-slash, but it's alright for what it is. Old-school grinding that becomes repetitive quite fast. The ending was shit though.

There was a stat in this game I had trouble finding any information on, the Survival Bonus. I checked the wiki and it turns out it is one of the most important stats in the game!

The more time you spend in combat the more your damage and chance of finding special items increases. It resets when you die, so it is meant to act as a deterrent to letting yourself get killed.

Which would be fine if the game told you about it. I thought the only penalty to death was losing gold so I let myself die a few times at the start of the game.

Lesson learned. Save often.

There is a handful of excellent wikies, the rest are shit. If you need to clear some nuances go to gamefaqs.
Survival bonus is easy to recover up to 40-50% but yes, overall save/load is better just because resurrection checkpoint is usually far from your last activity.
Also i never heard that survival bonus increases damage. If you want better drop kill champions. If you want better drop and exp switch to higher difficulty.

Last but not the least you could use Sacred Reborn mod. It makes the game more difficult even on bronse. It changes many things like concentration potions now work as teleportation potions for example. So it's not for everyone. No changes in the game's art though. There is a full list of changes in english.
But also it increases the drop rate five times for all difficulties and exp modified too. Overall Sacred community is mostly pleased very much with this mod.
And finally it is the only mod that gives you 16:9. Yes proper widescreen, no stretching. Considering that the resolution in this game is hardcoded the main programmer of this mod did fantastic job.

The Sacred Reborn looked cool with the HD but I decided not to go with it since it seemed to change the gameplay way too much.

While I was looking up tips for running the game properly on modern systems I found out there was one quest in the game if you did too soon would bug out four other quests. Turns out I did that quest, Riddle in the Desert. I would lose too much progress going back to an earlier save, so I'm just going to save those quests for when I unlock the next difficulties.

Also, this game is like crack for me.

I've been playing this, kinda fun. I don't usually like these kinds of games but something about this I like. The combo system is interesting, I don't know how deep that can get. I hoped it might create crazy stuff like Noita but it seemed like it mostly just fires a few spells one by one. Leading swarms of enemies through my huge areas of flames or frost is really satisfying.

I played Vampire Survivors for a while on my craptop but it kept reminding me of this game.

It's better than Sacred 2. Game just flows better, and no question I prefer it to Diablo 2's casino slot machine gameplay. That said, I always burn out about halfway through for whatever reason.

Some things I like that all RPGs should probably have:

Items:
I like that items are powerful and can change the way the game plays. You can even get items that improve your trading, as long as you remember to wear it when you shop. And it would probably pay off because the merchants have some really killer items you would want to buy. I have no money because I spent it on magic. It is also your responsibility to build something good. eg: If you want to use Fireball then you better make sure you get items that boost fire or you'll be puny. But there is decent depth to it. Even as a mage I can use a shield and mace, or a mages staff, or a crossbow. On the horse the bow is nice to pew pew noob enemies from miles away. For real fighting the mage staff makes the spells much stronger. But the distance spells are pretty weak. The most powerful spells seem to be Fire Spiral and Ring of Ice, which are both a short area around the caster. You can shred huge swarms of enemies to death in those small area spells, but it means stuff gets on top of you and hits you a lot. So figuring out I could use a shield and 1h was great. But you also gotta spend your points and get gear to suit how you end up playing. Good game.

Quests:
I had a few escort quests and always think FFFffffffuck!! But it's not bad, usually I can just run to wherever you need to end up and the character teleports to keep up with you. Friendly game.

Horses:
Horses usually suck in games, stupid clunky, get in the way when I'm trying to run away, etc. But in this game you can easily whiz about on a horse and it still fires most spells no problem.

It is not all great though. The controls... jeez. I sometimes forget we lived through a dark age where nobody knew what keys should do what and everyone had 11 fingers. Classic moments: Holding ALT key is required to see items on the ground and names of characters etc.. And holding TAB key is required for seeing the map as you travel. Holding alt and tab together? Not so great. Stuff like that. Also clicking thousands of crates and barrels is a pet peave. And each one has about 200g so I can't exactly not do it.

I don't remember a lot about Sacred Gold, but I did enjoyed it. Being able to ride a horse was a very cool experience and I think it would be cool if isometric cRPGs adapted ability to travel and FIGHT via some mount. All of those PoEs, Numeneras, KotCs, Swordhavens and jazz could use a four legged stallions. I loved to ram into enemies with my horse riding Barbarian in Sacred. Fun times. On the other hand, it It's a real shame what they did to the Sacred IP.
